

Shirley V. Jones, age 90 of Columbus, formerly of Hamilton, passed away Monday, October 29, 2012 at Highbanks Care Center in Columbus. She was born in Spring Hill, Clay County, Kentucky on May 7, 1922. She was formerly a member and elder of The Presbyterian Church on Front Street and had been active in the Civic Music Association, Keeley Dental Society Auxilary, and the YWCA “May Morning Breakfast” before living in Cincinnati, Chicago and Galveston. She made a career in public relations, was awarded membership in Women in Communications Inc., and successfully worked for WUBE radio in Cincinnati, the University of Texas Medical Branch Blood Bank, the Cincinnati Opera, United States National Bank, and New England Life Insurance among many others. Shirley is survived by her sister, Lois Laverne Hoskins Herman; children, Gerald (Carol) Norman, Charles (Faye) Norman, Barbara Norman Bauer, Christopher (Ruthann) Norman, and Elise Norman; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four nephews. She has been preceded in death by spouses Donald Verbryke, Stanley Norman, and Samuel Lee Jones; mother, Elizabeth Hoskins Johnson; stepfather, Namon Johnson; sister, Marie Hoskins Havens; and grandson, Tom Norman. Funeral Service will be held at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South "D" Street, Hamilton on Saturday Nov. 3rd at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tim Mintkenbaugh officiating. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Homereach Hospice of Columbus, Ohio whose staff faithfully supported and advocated for Shirley.
