

Vernon “Smitty” Smith, age 85, of Liberty Township, passed away on November 24, 2025, at UC Medical Center following a vehicle accident. He was born on August 4, 1940, in Busy, Kentucky, to the late Wilson Smith and Maggie (Turner) Smith. On November 8, 1959, Smitty married the love of his life, Laura (Engle) Smith, and together they built a strong and loving family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Smitty is survived by his five children: M. Jay (Paula) Smith, Ronnie (Marcia) Smith, Darlene Smith, J. Todd (Jennifer) Smith, and Regina (Greg) Begley; 18 grandchildren: Angela, TJ, Curtis, Maggie, Melanie, Brad, Sarah, Alex, Victoria, Breanna, Josiah, Wesley, Silas Vernon, Joey, Jacob, Jonathan, Laura, Leah and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Mildred Smith, Carl Smith, and Larry (Diane) Smith. He was preceded in death by his siblings Geraldine Peachee, Hershel “Curly” Smith, Donald Smith, and Bert Smith. Smitty was a proud U.S. Army Veteran of the 101st Airborne Division. Throughout his life, he worked as a dedicated mechanic and, in his later years, continued serving others through his work in real estate. He was a faithful member of The Church at Farmersville and The Church at Gano, where he formed many cherished friendships and served with steadfast devotion. Visitation will be held on December 1, 2025, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. at The Pentecostal Highway of Holiness Church, 3470 Hamilton Middletown Road, Hamilton, Ohio 45011. The funeral service will take place at the church on December 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Smitty’s son, Pastor J. Todd Smith. Interment will follow at West Chester Cemetery.
