

Peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital on January 28, 2026, in his 82nd year, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Margherita (née Filice) for 56 years. Cherished father of Nick, Stephanie and John (Piccoli), David and Nadia. Proud Nonno of Sofia, Michael, and Nathan.
Born in Italy and immigrating to Canada in 1951, Alberto embodied resilience, hard work, and an unmistakable passion for life. He earned an Honours Degree in Physics from McMaster University and devoted nearly 50 years to education, sharing his love of learning with generations of students. Known for his boisterous spirit, sharp wit, and boundless humour, Alberto filled every room with energy. He enjoyed gardening and watching his beloved Montreal Canadiens. His patience, quiet strength, and unwavering support for his family guided them through life’s challenges with grace and steadiness.
Predeceased by parents Nicola and Domenica Di Pietro and in laws Antonio and Clementina Filice. Dear brother and brother in law of late Anna and Orlando Verrecchia, Carlo and Giosy Di Pietro, Mario and Diane Di Pietro, Michele and Anna Filice, the late Ada Filice, late Maria and Eugenio Leone, late Raffaele Filice, late Pietro and Maria Filice, Francesco and late Flora Filice, the late Dora and Sam Mule. Alberto will be missed by many nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital and to the numerous support workers who provided compassionate care to Alberto at home throughout his battle with illness.
The family will receive friends at Markey Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King St. E. (at Kenilworth) on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 from 5-9 pm. Vigil Prayers 5 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, 200 Mount Albion Rd., Hamilton, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 10:30 am. Cremation to follow, inurnment at Bayview Mausoleum at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to McMaster Children’s Hospital or Good Shepherd Centre.
