Alexander William Finan

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and brother Alexander William Finan, in his 105th year on August 6, 2017. Beloved husband of the late Peggy (2015). Loving father of Dan Finan (Patricia) and Don Finan. Leaving behind many treasured memories with his grandchildren Jessica, Kevin, Alexander, Matthew and Gregory Finan. Alexander is survived by his brother Jack Finan and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by twin brother Harry Finan, brother Edward Finan and sister Mary Henderson. Alexander was a Navy Veteran, retired Stationary Engineer at Stelco Inc. and a 60 year parishioner of St. Eugene's Parish. He had a love of sports and travelling, staying physically fit through aerobics, skating and swimming in the family pool. Nicknamed "Howie" (Meeker/Cosell), he was known for his insightful hockey, football and baseball commentary. Many thanks to Dr. Ambis, the nurses and PSW team at Pine Villa nursing home for all their wonderful care over the past 4 years. The family will receive visitors at MARKEY DERMODY FUNERAL HOME 1774 King St. E (at Kenilworth) on Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 5-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Eugene's Roman Catholic Church, Hamilton on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. Interment to take place at a later date at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
