  Andy, Tim & I were classmates from grade 5 through grade 9 at Hillfield-Strathallen College during the years 1971-76. I've only recently heard about Andy's death  after having one of those "Where are they now" thoughts while on Facebook. 
  I remember a weekend when I visited them out in Burlington (if memory serves) the summer I bought my moped (lawfully allowed to ride on the streets at 14, sooooo 1975)! He & Tim took me out to some path in the woods to begin thrashing the poor 50cc Batavus to where it rattled on the ride back home (near Aberdeen & Dundurn, Hamilton). 
  Then there were the times I'd catch him sketching the side view of his favorite WWII fighter plane, the SPITFIRE!🙂
  Those are the only specific memories coming to mind at the moment, but classmates, teammates for 5 years, especially through those  developing years between 10 & 15 allow for fond feelings.
  My sincerest condolences, though 8 years late, to ALL his surviving family! 

Andy was one of the finest human beings I have ever known. He was a friend. From the days of Prudential, to the golf course, to the basketball court, to the tennis court, we always seemed to have a great time doing it all. He was the type of person that made whatever you were doing better with his presence. This is the reason I will miss him most. For Julie and the rest of his family, I can only guess the loss you feel. It was an honour to be his friend. You will be missed. Take care Friend.

It was an honour to be your friend.From our days selling insurance, to playing basketball, to playing golf or whatever we did together, you always made it fun. The people that were close to you were great because great people attract those types of people. I can not put in words how much everyone loved you, but those that had the privilege of knowing you, knew how great a man you were. It is hard to say goodbye. We had so many great days ahead of us. Alas 
I have to say goodbye. We think of you always, and your love stays behind in all those you blessed with your company. We will play tennis again, but you might have to give  me a few more years. Goodbye friend!

I met Andy & Julie on a plane going to Cuba. I had the sit beside them. It was my first solo flight. They both helped me relax and feel more comfortable. We shared conversation and beers on the plane and the bus both ways. I didn't know Andy well but it was my honor to have met him. I could tell he has a kind, gentle, compationate and caring soul.  The world has lost a wonderful man.  My heart goes out to you Julie.  May he rest in peace.

  It was so sad to here about what has happened.  15 years of doing your hair we have really gotten to know eachother. Its to bad i never got to meet Andy.  You always spoke so highly of him and could never say anything bad.  This is such a great loss to you and your families. I will thinking of you during this tough time.  Hope to see you soon.

Dear Barker Family,  A number of us, Andy and Tim's Hillfield friends, have been emailing one another as we have learned about this incredibly sad news. Though it has been a very long time since most of us have seen one another, reminiscing about our days together reminded us of how much fun we had. Andy in particular was very much the center of all that. Thank you for posting the photo album - it is amazing to see the joie de vivre he had as a teenager, in the pictures of him as a child, and all the way through adulthood. Dear Julie and family, I am uncertain that we ever met but I had the pleasure of working with Andy many years ago at Burlington Springs. At the time I was the Superintendent and when I left, Andy took over. I remember many of the great times and stories we shared and how affectionate he was for his family. Andy and I would speak once or twice a year and I always enjoyed memories of the past and looked forward to the new the next time he called. I am going to miss those calls and I will miss Andy. I can only hope that Andy takes with him the many memories, the love we all have for him and his famous PING putter. Respectfully and very saddened

I was part of the Hillfield crowd in Andy's life.  In particular, I remember playing alongside him on soccer (Junior School) and basketball (Senior School) teams.  Andy was a fierce competitor brimming with skill, swagger and confidence - but he always played with a slight smile.  While that expression was often tough to read and, as a younger player, it could be intimidating (looking at the photos, he never lost that look), there were always words of helpful advice and genuine encouragement.  Andy was a natural leader, and had a strong impact on me as someone who looked up to him, for which I am grateful.  My prayers are with Andy, and the entire Barker family.

A piece of my heart goes with Andy, forever a dear friend to me. My sincererst condolences to his family. I fondly recall walking the halls of Hillfield with "Bin", napkins on our heads, playing out scenes from Monty Python.
