Arthur Bennett

Peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital in his 91st year on Thursday, October 23. Loving father of Cathy Fawcett and her husband Bill, David Bennett and his wife Donna. Predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Mae (2004) and granddaughter Shannon (1991). He was pre-deceased by his brother Tom (Ernie) and sister-in-law Betty. Art was the proud grandfather of Becky Carter (Mike) and Andrew Fawcett (Melanie), great-grandfather of 9 and special “Gramps” to Frank and Christine. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews. Brother-in-law of Norma and Jack Harris, Ron and Jean Campbell, Hazell and the late Harry Shaw and the late Flora and Terry Underdown. Art will be sadly missed by his companion Jean Senior and her family. After retiring from Dofasco with 40 years of dedicated service, Art spent 29 years as a volunteer driver for the VON. Art was a founding member of the Dofasco Veterans Pipe & Drum Band and was a member of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Veterans Band. He will be missed by his neighbours, friends and all those whose lives he touched. A special thank you to the doctors and nurses of 7 South at the Hamilton General Hospital for all of the care, compassion and kindness you showed Dad in his final days and to Rev. Tim Kennedy for his support. Friends and family will be received at the Markey-Dermody Funeral Home (Rosedale Chapel), 1774 King St. E. from 2 – 4 pm and 7-9 pm on Saturday Oct. 25 and from 1 pm – 5 pm Sunday October 26. Funeral service to be held at Pioneer Memorial United Church, 1974 King St. E, Hamilton on Monday Oct. 27 at 11 am. Cremation to follow.
