Carole passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, in the family room at St. Peter’s Palliative Care on May 23, 2024. Moments before her passing, she sang “I Did It My Way” with a smile on her face, embodying her independent spirit until the very end.
Carole endured much in her later years, and it was time for her to join the angels. As a strong, independent woman, she raised two children and welcomed two more with open arms: Brian (Janine) and Debby (Darren). She was an extraordinary mother, always present and supportive, regardless of the situation.
She was Grams to her four adored grandchildren: Tyson, Jessica, Dustin, and Erica (Nick soon to join as a fifth grandchild) which she warmly welcomed him into our family. Grams always ensured fairness and equality among all her children and grandchildren.
Carole was a sister to her big brother Jim (Joan) and her younger stepbrother Bobbie (Carmen). She was a loving aunt to Theresa (Garrett) and Jonathan, Jeff (Lynne), Emily, and John (Jodi), along with many other step-nieces, nephews, adopted nieces and nephews, and children who affectionately called her Grandma Smith due to her big heart and kindness.
If Carole was your friend, she was your friend for life. You were fortunate to experience her love, devotion, support, and lively spirit.
Carole loved to play games, especially cards & tiles with Sheila, sing to her favourite music, solve jigsaw puzzles & sudoku. Let’s not forget her scratchers that became a part time job for Darren. TV became an important part of her day, watching The Young & the Restless and never missed Survivor. She was a foodie, red lobster was her favourite. So it was particularly heartbreaking when her tumour took away her ability to eat.
Dancing was another favorite pastime with her longtime friend, Wendy. Many of us cherish the crocheted blankets she made. Carole loved to travel, embarking on cruises, exploring islands, visiting Las Vegas, British Columbia, Disney, and the East Coast several times. She also enjoyed traveling to Europe. Through social media, her grandson Tyson brought Paris to her via FaceTime, showcasing the lights of the Eiffel Tower in what became her last adventure.
Life was undoubtedly richer with Carole among us, but we cannot wish her back to endure the suffering she faced. We are grateful for everything she left behind. Rest in peace, Carole. You will always be in our hearts and never forgotten. We all love you Mum and miss you deeply. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 1pm-4pm with a reception to follow from 4pm-6pm.
