After a short and brave struggle with cancer and with the love and support of his family, Donato (Don) Prosia was peacefully relieved of his pain on Sunday, September 1, 2019, at the age of 61. He leaves behind his soul mate, Cheryl Prosia (nee Rankine), and his loving children Nicholas (Francesca), Daniel (Lauren) and Amber (Mick). He will be forever loved and cherished by his 5 young grandchildren: Adriano, Alessandro, Hunter, Ryder, and Ava.
He is predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Caterina, and will be remembered by his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Don had a great passion for soccer. He coached for Mount Hamilton Youth Soccer Club and was one of the founders of Female Rep Soccer for the club. We know that if soccer exists in Heaven, Don will be coaching. Although Don did have a great passion for soccer that lives on in his children and grandchildren, his greatest love was that of his wife and children who never left his side. A special thank you to the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers of Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice.
The family will be having a celebration of life, in honour of Donato’s wishes, at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton, on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 from 10:00am-12:00pm, and 6:00pm-8:00pm, with a vigil at 11:00am. Cremation is to follow the day of visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice in honour of “The Don”.
