Barbara,

Was so sorry to hear about Doug’s unexpected passing in an email from cousin Wayne.  I remember stories about all your fabulous travels together and I’m sure you’ll miss your husband and traveling companion dearly.  Sincere condolences- Cousin Susan Brittner (née Adamson)

Dear Barb:

I was greatly saddened to learn of Doug's sudden passing. I hope that your memories and support of loved ones will bring you some comfort during this difficult time.  

I have many fond childhood memories of spending time with you both during many social gatherings,  and one legendary houseboat trip. 

How did you stay friends after living on a boat together for one week?  What's your secret?  Actually, now that I mention it, I do recall  the boat becoming unaccountably un-moored during the night.  So, maybe the Gibson's and the Jarrett's weren't as peaceable   as I recall. Was it sabotage?  We may never know the truth.  

I do know that both of you were so kind to include us  kids in whatever evening was planned, on land and water, including a few Trivial Pursuit games, with talk of books, and travel and art, and fancier fare than mac n' cheese.  

And, what an impressive fellow, that Doug.  Teacher and Pupil. I was thoroughly gobsmacked when he capably spoke and  ordered in French during a restaurant visit  - followed by a round of meek 'ummm....merci's' from the far less fluent Gibson clan. : )  

Barb, I can only imagine what a difficult time this is for you and I can barely comprehend how quickly time seems to pass.  I know that my words cannot surmount your grief  - but I  did want to share those thoughts and say that I'm thinking of you and Doug.  I'm glad to know you and glad to have known him. 

“And gladly wolde he lerne and gladly teche"

Barbara:   What a shocker.Still hard to believe .Doug was a true gentleman in its true meaning.He and Barbara loved to travel which they accomplished over time.

Dear Barbara:   Paul and I were so sorry to hear of Doug's sudden passing.  The two of you have had a great life together and shared that life and your experiences with many of us who you have known over the years.   Your annual Christmas newsletters were something we looked forward to every year and often commented on how lucky you were to be together for so long and to be able to do so much together in your retirement. Uncle Doug - You and Aunt Barbara were exemplary Godparents. You instilled an appreciation for art, culture, and beauty in my life that lives in my heart to this day. I am grateful to have benefited from your gentle wisdom, and generous spirit. I know you are off to even greater things now.
