Elaine Spencer

Born in Exeter, Ontario in 1920, died peacefully at age 96, on March 18,2016 in Hamilton, Ontario. She was a dedicated and loving mother and sister and a caring nurse. She attended Ewart College for Deaconess training before entering Mack Training School for Nurses in St Catharines, graduating in 1942. She then married Ernie Spencer (deceased 1992), moving to Fort Erie in 1947, after having 3 children,George(deceased 1992) Melanie (Rev. Robert) Harrold, St. Catharines and Lorraine (David) Gilchrist, Hamilton. She worked for many years at the Douglas Memorial Hospital, assisting at more births than she could remember. In her retirement, she and Ernie divided their time between their cottage at Frankford, Ontario and Florida, making many friends in Stirling and Naples. She treasured her growing family of 8 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, who knew her as G.G. Over the years there was always a continuing participation in the Presbyterian Church, taking leadership roles in the WMS. Her active involvement was only lessened when she entered Queens Garden nursing home at age 92. Elaine would have been pleased to have memorial donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Church of St. John & St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 19 Tisdale St.N, Hamilton ON L8L 8A7. Visitation and reception with the family will be on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 1 p.m. followed by a Service of Celebration at 2:30 p.m. at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Ave. E (between Upper Wellington and Upper Wentworth), Hamilton.
