Even though you weren't ‘really' my Auntie, you were in so many ways.  One of my earliest memories is of my mother Jean pushing me in my stroller down Barton Street to your farm.  We lived in front of the AeroVox electronics company and it was a fair walk from there to your place.  I would get out of the stroller and walk whenever I saw boys of my own age coming towards us.
After at least an hour or so we would arrive...my Mum and you would visit and Doreen and I would check out the tractor, the rabbits, Ole Sole Mio the pig, water-filled ditches and everything else that a city-kid like me would find interesting.  Then my Dad Fritz would drive to the farm after work and after supper and playing some chess with Alfie we would head home.
Our chance to repay this hospitality was to host Doreen at our place on Halloween and she would traipse around our neighbourhood in Stoney Creek following my brother Rick and I since she really didn't have any really close neighbours – at least not when it came to passing out Halloween candies.
We just knew instinctively even  in those days what an especially caring person you were, the kid's you took under your wing and the work you did at your church.  It was so good to see you and Mum get together again just before she died.
You have always occupied a really special place in the hearts of this Giacomelli family and will continue to do so for a long time to come.  You are one of my earliest memories that I shall continue to treasure...

Auntie Emma – you will be greatly missed by all those who love you.   You have touched so many lives in so many special ways.  Many years ago, my father, Peter Curran, “adopted” you as our Aunt and you have been “Auntie Emma” to us ever since.  Since my father's passing in 2001, my mother (Jackie) and my sisters (Debbie, Karen, and Gail) have come out to visit you each year and have enjoyed all your stories that you have shared with us about our Grandmother (Edith Roberts) and our father while we enjoyed a cup of tea and your famous lemon meringue pie.  I am certain that my father and my grandmother and all those who left before you are there to welcome you.  My deepest condolences to your family.  Sadly missed, never forgotten. Auntie Emma was a great strong woman, and we all looked up to her.  My Grandfather Peter Curran used to tell us stories and I really enjoyed the time we did get to spend with Auntie Emma in Stoney Creek.  She will be missed, but our memories will keep her with us ..

I have many special memories of visiting my Auntie Emma as a young girl with my mother Edith.  Always a warm and loving welcome, a helping hand when needed and never an unkind word.  I will carry those memories with me always, along with the memories left to me by my mother of the special friendship you both shared.  May you now be reunited with all those you have loved that have gone to heaven before you.  I know my mother Edith will be waiting with open arms. You touched many lives with your kindness and caring ways.   My deepest condolences to all your family and friends.  With love always Cindy (Roberts) Ivey.

Aunt Emma was a significant person in the life of Peter Curran (our deceased Father). Our Mother (Jackie) and sisters (Debbie, Gail and Connie) and I all have fond memories of her visit to our place in Germany decades ago with her best friend, our Grandmother, Edith Roberts.  Since that initial visit and over the many years since, she has always been 'Aunt Emma' to us.  She was a delight to spend time with, to learn of her volunteer activities and travels, and to listen to her wonderful stories.   She was always cheerful and never hesitated to make time for us including countless lemon meringue pies and provide us with books and african violets. Although we will miss her greatly, we know that Dad is giving her a warm welcome in heaven along with alot of bear hugs.

Auntie Emma... we are so lucky to have known you, loved you and be loved by you!  Many many years ago, my dad, Peter Curran and my grandmother, Edith Roberts brought you into our lives and you have been a special part of our family ever since!  My own little family of six (Boutin) also loved you very much.  I know my Dad, grandmother and even my husband, Gerry (who passed recently but thought the world of you) are all there to greet you.  We will all miss your strength, wisdom, caring, wonderful stories, visits and delicious baking, especially your lemon pie.  Love you so much - forever on our minds and memories!
