When I think of Erich, I think of the smiles and laughter we shared at elementary school together. Even at a young age, Erich was a wonderful, thoughtful, and dependable friend. My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.

Though we met only a few brief times, it was clear what a bright, good guy Erich was. My Katimavik group-mates and I were lucky to have spent time with him and his group. Warmest thoughts to them, his family and his girlfriend.

Just two years ago I remember meeting you on the platform at Union Station - and what an impression you left with me! What a sweet, intelligent young man you were!! And now, how my heart aches to see those beautiful pictures of a tiny baby, just a month older than my own son....but I am comforted knowing that you are forever at peace...My sincere condolences to your family and loved ones....a dear angel in heaven will be with them always....

The Buddhists have a saying “Even death is not to be feared by one who has lived wisely.”  Erich, in the past couple weeks we've read and heard so much about what a compassionate and beautiful person you were.  You touched people with your kindness, your enormous heart, and your smile.  You lived wisely beyond your years!  Our paths crossed only a few times and what we remember most is the gentleness with which you conducted yourself.  Our hearts break for your mom, Matty, Chris, Carmen, and all the other family and friends who are left to grieve your death.  But we know that the legacy of your love is carried in each and every one of us whose path you crossed, and we are better people because of this.  Our hearts break for you too, Erich … knowing that your inner world was filled with pain.  Now you can spread your wings and fly, and finally feel the freedom that you deserve.

Thank you for sharing the beautiful photos of this lovely young man. i only had the pleasure of meeting Erich once but heard many stories and know what a special place he had in the Johnston family hearts. My sympathies are with the family.

I had the privilege of meeting Erich and my fond memories of him is when we came to Montreal to pick him up and took him on some excursions. He was a happy boy and always smiled and just loved to have fun. He will be sadly missed.

Erich, you were as much part of our family as someone born into it.  We have lost a son and a brother and there is a hole left in our hearts and in our family. Saying we will miss you is an understatement, we will never get over this great loss and we will never forget your kind, smiling face and your gentle soul. We love you.

Erich, where to start? The world has lost an incredible, selfless person. Someone who was always thinking of others. I remember when you'd come over for those endless sleepovers with Matthew, always the most knowledgeable about fashion, I would ask your advice on my outfits before I went out. You always sided with me instead of Matthew! You gave the best hugs and had the most amazing smile.  You had the most amazing soul, always smiling and laughing, even through the toughest time in your life.  I hope you are resting in peace, you deserve to finally be carefree and without burden.  I'm sorry I cannot be there for you this weekend, but you are in my thoughts and prayers.  Erich, you were like a little brother to me, I will miss our talks. Love you.

I remember when Catherine had a fundraising dinner for Erich when he was going to Guatemala .  It was a ladies night and Catherine served a delicious authentic Italian menu.  She was so proud of Eric, and we all were too.  Erich, you will always live on in the hearts of everyone you've touched, big or small, rest in peace

In the last few years, Erich and I lost touch; however, I will never forget the moments that we spent together. When I think of Erich, I remember a kind hearted, generous boy with an open heart and kind soul. I will never forget his smile and the fact that no matter what the situation, he always managed to make me smile. Erich had such positive energy, he always saw the good in people and I admired him for that. I would like to give my sincerest condolences to Erich's family, his girlfriend as well as all of his friends and other people who's lives he touched in his short time here with us. I wish I was fortunate enough to have had the chance to spend more time with Erich, however in the short time that we spent together, Erich taught me many valuable lessons. Erich, I will forever have fond memories of you from our times spent together in elementary school and at the Cavendish mall fairs. I will honor your spirit for as long as I live. We will always miss you, but I know that you are like the wind...we can't see you, but we can feel you. You may be gone from this world, but I know that you are waiting for us all on the other side. You are loved and missed immensely.

Erich, I'm glad to have known you even for the short time we both worked together, and so saddened that you're gone. You were always so fun and friendly. I loved looking at the board and seeing that you were going to be on the same train as me, and then we would discuss future aspirations as we sat together during breaks.

Catherine, Chris and Matt, you have my deepest sympathy for your loss. I remember Erich bringing over that beautiful bike to hide at our house as a surprise present for you, Catherine. What a wonderful, kind considerate son, he will be missed by all that knew him.

Erich was great at forming instant friendships, which is exactly what happened when we met. It's nice to remember how well-liked he was, but saddening to think of the many who will miss him. My thoughts are with his family and friends in these very difficult times. When I met Erich I was shocked at his age, because I thought he must be a few years older! He had experienced so much in his short life and carried himself with worlds more dignity and maturity than other boys his age. He couldn't say a negative thing about anybody, and I doubt anyone could say anything bad about him. Rest in peace Erich, I'll always remember you!

I only knew Erich for about a year but what really struck me about him is how lovingly he would speak of his family and old friends from home, but especially his brother and mother.  He would also often speak of the good he planned to do in the world one day, but I don't know if he realized the impact of all the charitable work he had already done, and all the joy he spread on a daily basis just by being himself. He was a smart, adventurous, sensitive, funny and caring guy, and I hope everyone's happy memories of him bring them solace. Rest in peace Erich.

Erich, I will treasure the fond memories I have of you forever. You will never be forgotten. Rest in peace.

Erich my friend, thanks for being a great co-worker. You always brought a smile to everyone around you. Nobody knows why a life ends when it does, but its not how long or short of time you lived, but rather what you accomplished in your life. As well as I won't forget the time we convinced you and your cousin Brock to join the contest at Bissell's Hideaway to dress up as little girls. You guys were soo cute! Good times and memories.
