Jerry loved spending time building his shed, drinking Bud Light in his man cave, and cheering on (or swearing at) a Raiders game. He loved an extra spicy Caesar with a cheese and meat tray, or a meat lovers pizza, with hot sauce on everything. We’re pretty sure the only vegetable he would eat was Caesar salad.
Mornings look a lot different without him here. His presence couldn’t be ignored as he drank his coffee at the kitchen table with his crosswords, playing his phone games on full volume, with the radio turned WAY up.
He loved his visits to Princess Auto, sneaking cashews to the dogs, watching the backyard squirrels, planting tomatoes in the garden, late-night online shopping, and enjoying an occasional cigar on a long weekend, all with the firm motto to “eliminate all bullsh*t from his life”. He loved it when his friend Brian would come to town or meet up with him for lunch or at Brad’s backyard oasis. “Hey Brudder”.
He was a dedicated, hard worker and wore many hats throughout his career. In his younger years, he was a passionate musician then proceeded to earn his journeyman papers as an Ironworker. Unfortunately, that career was short-lived after an accident and he was unable to return to the trade. Afterwards, he went back to college again and became an Audio Visual Technician. Most recently he worked with Tekwurk where his dedication was well known. Thank you, Scott, for being the best boss he ever had. Even after two knee replacements, he would hobble over to his car in the wee hours of the morning (wearing shorts in -20℃) to happily drive to a job site.
He was two months away from “official” retirement, planning a trip with Helen to Nova Scotia this summer. Just the beginning of many other vacations to come. He was not sure he was going to fully retire but had plans to take more time for himself. He planned to finish his man shed, build a new back deck, buy a new SUV, spend time at a cottage and visit friends more often.
Although he was from a “different generation” and had a troubling childhood, we couldn’t be prouder of his values. He stood firmly against all types of hate and spoke up for those that faced discrimination. He was a true ally.
He will be deeply missed by his best friend and high school sweetheart of 50 years, Helen, his daughter Bailey, and his hilarious daughter Madison. Jerry will also be lovingly remembered by many extended family members and close friends. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place on what would have been his 65th birthday, March 28 at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton from 3 pm to 6 pm.
