Joe was a loving father to Charles (Katherine) and Vincent, and a cherished Nonno to Brittney (Jacob Stewart) and Natalie (Victor Tudoran). He was predeceased by his parents, Calogero and Salvatrice Collura, and his in-laws, Domenica and Vincenzo Zoccoli.
Joe was a dear brother to the late Charlie Collura (the late Vincenza), the late Salvatore Collura (Domenica), the late Pietro Collura (the late Calogera), the late Carmelo Collura (the late Petrina), the late Luigi Collura (Margaret), and Maria Guagliano (the late Alfonso). He was also a beloved brother-in-law to the late Rosa Versace (the late Giovanni), the late Cosimo Zoccoli (Marlene), the late Frank Zoccoli (Pearl), the late Domenic Zoccoli (Laura), and Lena Filice (Frank). He will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Joe was a retired employee of Dofasco in Hamilton. For most of his life, he could be found working hard in his garden or in Katherine and Charlie’s garden or walking laps around the local park. When the rain came, Joe walked laps in his basement; when the snow arrived, he walked the beaches of Acapulco. In recent years, if Joe wasn’t in his room at Wentworth Heights, he was likely outside enjoying the garden, relaxing in the sunroom, or enjoying a spirited game of Bingo often competing for chocolate.
Though Joe is no longer with us, his loved ones will forever feel his presence in the warmth of the sun. His phone calls—whether brief or long—were a small but meaningful ritual in many of our lives. Joe’s love, kindness, and generosity toward his family, friends, as well as the chosen family who surrounded him at The Village of Wentworth Heights, will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
Joe remains forever in our hearts, and his spirit will live on through the many memories shared with family and friends, close to home and across the world. He treasured his travels with his late wife, Theresa, including time spent in Acapulco, Italy, New York, Hawaii, California, Florida, Dominican Republic, Cuba and beyond.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to Robin Rosa from Ontario Health atHome and to the entire staff at The Village of Wentworth Heights, who not only supported Joe’s care but made his time there truly enjoyable, treating him with kindness, dignity, and like family. Joe also relished visits from family and dear friends.
Family and friends will be received at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton, on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., followed by entombment at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Hamilton in memory of Joe’s late wife, Theresa.
