From a small homestead in Saskatchewan,Gord had many adventures and ultimately made his home in Hamilton where, along with his wife of 66 years, Dorothy, raised three strong and beautiful daughters (Nancy Hemrica, Sandra Giles, and Lois Verboon).
After retiring from a long career at Stelco, Gord realized his dream of building a log cabin on a lake which to this day remains a haven for his family, including his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and dogs. While a beautiful and storied place, the legacy of the cottage remains in the lessons he taught there. Lessons like the early bird always gets the last piece of Dorothy’s pie and that if you find the perfect piece of driftwood you should always save it for a future project. He taught us the love of nature and the beauty of trees in all seasons. The majesty of the lake at sunrise. The healing power of a quiet paddle. The calm of a roaring fire. Nature is where we all found community with him and felt his love the most. In the rustle of the aspen leaves and the glow of the fireflies is where we will remember him.
We would like to thank the friends, family, and care providers that supported us through the end, allowing Gord to remain home, comfortable, and cared for and to die as he lived, with quiet grace.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Bruce Trail Conservancy https://brucetrail.org/
Keeping with Gordon's wishes cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Visitation which will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 4pm-7pm at CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME, 322 Fennell Avenue E. to share a memory and celebrate his incredible life.
