Hilda Elizabeth Rempel was born in 1941 to Thomas and Ida in Diffield, England.  She got her nursing degree before immigrating to Canada on her own to start a new life. While working as an RNA in Toronto, she met Ernest Rempel at a dance. Shortly after, they married and had four children together: Brian, Glen, Linda, and Paul. They settled in the Hamilton area, where she continued to work as a nursing assistant at McMaster University Hospital and at the local nursing home, while raising her children. Hilda was an active and enthusiastic member of the United Church. In 1979, she started getting involved with supporting refugees displaced by the war in Vietnam through the church, which led to a lifetime of dedicated support for the community.

Hilda was an intrepid adventurer, and loved to travel. But her volunteering with the Asian  community and the church was her great passion in life. She loved to help, and made many friends through this work over the decades. She loved a good dinner, and there was no party she wouldn’t want to go to. She loved her children and especially her grandchildren, and was very involved in their lives.

To Rempel's Family!!!  ( Brian )   It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we received the news of her passing. In these holy days of Easter, we find comfort in the belief that she has been called back to the Lord, finding eternal peace in His loving embrace.

We are so sorry to hear of Hilda’s passing. She had always been so warm and welcoming. Hilda was truly an angel; you could see from the way she treated people day to day and how it carried out into her life long profession of being a nurse. She lived a life of service which they say is true fulfilment. 

We will miss you dearly Hilda. Forever grateful you were a part of mine and Dennis’ many first adventures; first adult jobs, first house, and first baby. 

Hilda has a special place in our hearts, and we will remember her always.

Hilda has been an honorary part of our family for as long as I can remember. She was present for every family gathering, celebration, wedding, etc. We are so happy to have all those wonderful memories with her. We will miss her laughter, kindness, empathy, openness to learning people's stories, different cultures and helping others in need. She was the kindest soul. Thank you for being a part of our family all these years.

To the woman that was a bit of a mentor, a role model and a confidante.  A sister to my grandmother and a family friend emphasis on the family part.  A caring and competent nurse.  

I can hardly remember when you weren’t in my life as a toddler arriving in Canada .  It’s hard to realize you will no longer be a phone call away but always in my heart and mind.  Your wisdom, patience and insight made the memories and conversations I had with you that much more precious.   I hope everybody else was fortunate enough to know you to some degree with all the many lives you’ve touched, helped and given without thought.

To Hilda, 
I first met you as a teenager, and it was only many years later as an adult that I recognised that you too must have the usual pressures and challenges of everyday life. My slowness in coming to this realisation is due to your ability to make the person you are speaking with the centre of your attention; you never talk of yourself, and you take such a genuine interest in others, remembering the things which are important to them. Your warmth and generous nature makes you such easy company. I will miss you.
My thoughts are with you Paul, A-Si, Adam, Kevin, Sophie and the rest of the family.

Please accept our deepest condolences for this tragic loss from the Le family.  Aunt Hilda was a saint in the truest sense of the word.  She helped sponsor me and my family to Canada in 1981 and has been in our lives ever since.  She attended my wedding and I’m very grateful my wife and children were able to get to know her and her family while she was still with us.  I don’t think I will ever meet another person that gave so much of herself to help others.  She was a true role model of kindness and caring and even though she has now passed, her values, empathy and compassion will live on in all who were fortunate to have known her.  We love you and will remember you always Aunt Hilda.   Rest in peace.
