Isidore Varlas

Born in Chios, Greece on June 18, 1930, to his parents Alexandros and Anna Varlas. Beloved husband of 60 years to Despina Varlas (Frangos). Loving father of Anna (Elias) and Stella (Wade). Cherished grandfather of Alexander and Callista. Dear sister of Maria and predeceased by brother Andoni.

Isi immigrated to Canada from Chios, Greece in 1959. Isidore & Despina settled first in North Bay. Moved to Burlington and then established roots in Hamilton where he started a family, raising two girls with his wife Despina. He worked hard at Firestone many overtime shifts; and in retirement opened his own Kel - Main Variety Store Business.

Isidore loved to garden, his entire backyard was full of vegetables; while he could be seen drinking a whole pot of herbal tea to start the day, his favorite sage (faskomilo). Isi took great pleasure in working on his Chrysler Cordoba and keeping it in perfect condition. He spent countless hours playing with his grandkid’s marbles and elastic games. Isidore long cherished being back in his homeland of Greece and could be found relaxing with family and watching the boats go by.

A Funeral Service for Isidore will be held Friday, July 4, 2025 at 11:00 am at Panagia - Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church, 233 E 15th Street, Hamilton, Ontario. Burial at Mount Hamilton Cemetery, 260 Rymal Road East, Hamilton, Ontario.
