Jacqueline was born Nov. 5, 1933, in Reading, England, to George and Cecilia Stevens. She was educated at St. Joseph's Convent in Reading and grew up with her two brothers Royston (predeceased) and John (Cornwall, England) In 1956, Jacqueline emigrated to Hamilton, ON with her dearly loved husband James McCarthy (predeceased) to start a new life together.
Jacqueline was a Qualified Administrative Assistant (QAA) and throughout her career, she held various administrative positions, including her role as an Executive Administrative Assistant at the Society of Management Accountants. After retiring, she pursued her passion for dance with the Geritol Follies.
Our mother was a talented cook, always eager to try new and diverse recipes. She was an avid reader, with a particular love for thrillers, mystery and romance novels. She enjoyed listening to Tom Jones, Roger Whittaker, and Glen Campbell. She loved spending time with her family, especially with a glass of white wine, a lively conversation and always a thoughtful opinion that never minced words. Renowned for her expertise in spelling and grammar, she was often called upon for her editing skills. Jacqueline was always meticulous in her appearance and took great delight in shopping, much to the chagrin of Jim. Many weekends were spent at the family cottage in Port Elgin before she and Jim built their dream home on Daffodil Crescent in Ancaster.
Predeceased by her loving husband Jimmy (2008), Jacqueline leaves behind her three children Lindsey (Rick Zablocki), Jamie (Giampiero Bartolucci - deceased), and Steven (Cathie Ellis).
She is also survived by her six grandchildren (Emily, Lewis, Michael, Mary Cathryn, Gillian, James, and Erin) and six great-grandchildren. She loved them all, was proud of their accomplishments and was always in their corner. She will be truly missed.
A heartfelt thank you to Darlene Murphy for the time and care you shared with our mother over the past two years. We also extend our gratitude to the Stone Church Family Health team for their timely assistance.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome to attend A Celebration of Life Gathering on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 from 6-9pm. Private Memorial Service and Committal at Mount Hamilton Cemetery will be held at a later date.
