James Wilhelm Backus

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of James Wilhelm Backus. He peacefully passed at St. Peter's Hospital after a brave struggle with Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) and Diabetes. A heartfelt gratitude to the entire Staff at St. Peter's for their attention, care, and humour at this difficult time. Jim laughed often. He will be greatly missed by Diane Moore (his Beloved Wife), Niece Suzanne, Nephew Gordon. Jim was a friend of Bill W. And Dr. Bob. He was forever grateful and celebrated 31 years of Sobriety. Jim and Diane founded the Hamilton Group of Recovering Couples Anonymous and were active at the World Service Conference. Jim will be sorely missed by Family and his many Friends. Jim was a proud Finlander who believed in SISU. It is the "second wind" of mental toughness, after the individual has reached the limits of their observed mental or physical capacities. SISU begins where perseverance and grit end. Visitation will be this Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. - Noon at CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME - Fennell Chapel, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton, Ontario with a Funeral Service at Noon officiated by Fr. Peter Watters followed by an Interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 700 Chapel Hill Road off Hwy 53, Stoney Creek, ON. All are invited to attend a Reception from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Melrose United Church, 86 Homewood Avenue at Locke Street South, Hamilton, ON.
