Passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital on Thursday December 7, 2017 in his 84th year. Jim is survived by Lil, his wife of 35 years. He was predeceased by his 1st wife Isobel, his brother Ralph and beloved grand-daughter Nicole. He leaves behind daughters Gail Paling and Lori McConnell, sons Tom (Noreen), Steve (Annie), Jimmy, and Robert (Nicole), and step-sons Dale Cassavetes (Kim) and Dan Cassavetes. Grandfather of Brandon (Michelle), Michael (Keturah), Cristene, Kelsey, Tommy, Lauren, Kevin, Race, EverLee and great grandchildren Isabella, Maddox, Cole, and Summer. He also leaves behind sister-in-law Pat McConnell and her family. Jim enjoyed curling at Glendale and spending summers at his trailer in Thornbury. He never needed coaxing to break into a song. He loved animals and always had a dog in his home. He finally realized his dream of having a thoroughbred race horse and had the extreme pleasure of seeing his horse win at both Woodbine and Fort Erie. Jim owned Eastmount Plumbing & Heating, Eastern Mechanical Contracting, and later Jannell Mechanical Contracting. Many thanks to the caring staff in the Lincoln Ward at St. Peter’s Hospital where he spent his last 5 months. Special thanks to his “bud” Kim who spent endless hours by his side and took him for quiet walks in Gage Park. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Sunday December 17, 2017 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm. We hope you can come and share your memories. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Peter’s Foundation or the Hamilton Burlington SPCA would be appreciated.
