Predeceased by her beloved husband Leslie Sayer (1987), her son Leslie Sayer Jr. (2015) (Karen) and by her companion, Mike Forester. Loving mother to Jackie Brooks (Ron), Dawn Sayer and Mark Sayer. Adored grandmother to Geoff, Derek, Jennifer, Stewart, Katie, Brittany, Adam and Amanda. She will also be deeply missed by her 13 great-grandchildren, great-great-granddaughter, extended family and friends.
Jean was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 163 and also enjoyed her time spent at Sackville Community Centre, where she loved to play cards, bingo, learn a new craft or simply chat with friends. She was an amateur artist and crafter, over the years demonstrating her talent for sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlework, painting, copper tooling, wood carving, paper tolling and pottery.
Jean was an avid gardener and loved her home of 65 years, most especially her front porch where she could both bird watch and people watch, often inviting neighbours passing by to join her for a chat. She loved to use her well known quick wit to evoke a laugh or bring a smile to someone’s face.
Jean loved her family and always looked for occasions to draw us together again and again, no matter how far away our paths in life may have taken us. Our family would like to express immense gratitude to all the loving and devoted caregivers at Hamilton Continuing Care. In this past year of difficult COVID-19 restrictions and isolation, they kept her safe for us and in many ways became her surrogate family when we did not have personal access, and were able only to “window” visit with her. She called that window her alternate TV, one she often found far more interesting than the programmed version. She appreciated your laughter at her many witticisms and we all are thankful for your personal touch in her care.
In keeping with Jean's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Private Family Urn Committal will be held at Eastlawn Cemetery.
