

Born May 23rd ,1922 in Glace Bay (Cape Breton) Nova Scotia and passed away at her home in her 90th year with family by her side. Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years Arnold Gesner Goodwin. Joan was the beloved Mother of Peter Forbes (Karen) of Hamilton, Paul Goodwin (Nancy) of Port Dover, Linda Nickele (Mike) of Hamilton, Brenda Rendell (Chris) of Hamilton, and Arnold Goodwin of Dunnville. She was the cherished grandmother of Debbie (Fred), Denise (Rob), Amanda (Mike), Melissa (Todd), Scott (Colleen), Jim (Jacqueline), Deryck (Jennifer), Sean (Elesha), Christopher, David, Hillary, Allison (Sean), Becci, Megan (Justin) and the loved great-grandmother of Andrew, Kristen, Danika, Grace, Alexis, Ava, Josh, Zachary, Caitlyn, Larissa, Ryan, Sabrina, Brody and Kiersten. Joan was predeceased by her parents Peter MacAulay and Ethel "Betty" (Peto) of Moncton, NB. Joan was also predeceased by her dear brothers Alex MacAulay of Ottawa ON., Fred MacAulay of Moncton, NB., John MacAulay of Edmonton, AB., as well as her sister Florence McCartney of Athens, Georgia. Joan began her work experience with the Canadian Employment Service. From there she spent many years as a bookkeeper and accountant for A. Goodwin Floor Covering and finally with Dell Pharmacy. Joan spent her retirement with her husband wintering in Florida and Summers at their lakeside cottage near Dunnville. Joan was definitely the Matriarch of the Goodwin family. She enjoyed her family around her as much as possible, particularly on special occasions such as Thanksgiving, Christmas and especially her Birthday!
Joan's family would like to extend a heart felt thanks to the EMS staff and the Police Officers of Hamilton who attended to Joan and showed her family exceptional compassion. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Gene Vallee for always keeping an eye on our Mom.
Her family will receive friends at the Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Ave. E. on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday December 23rd at 11 am in the chapel followed by interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
