John Alphonsus McKenna

With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, John Alphonsus Mc Kenna, on Friday May 12th 2017 at Extendicare in his 92nd year. Beloved Husband to Charlotte (nee Lavers) for 68 years. Loving Father of Bill, Susan (Mike), Maureen, Jack (Lynda), Cathy (Gary), Barbara (Michael) and Judy. Proud Grandfather of Emma, Patricia, Megen, Samantha, Jarrett, Kayleigh, Michael, Brogan, Laura, Courtney, Joyce. Great grandfather to 11. Loving Son to the late Peter and Georgina McKenna of Prince Edward Island. Beloved Brother to Emmett, Martina, James, Stephen, Beatrice, Ivan, Michael, Patrick, Jean and Earl. John was a Veteran of World War 2. He worked in Nova Scotia after the war where he met the love of his life Charlotte Lavers. They moved to Ontario in 1949 where they raised 7 children and started his own business “John McKenna Construction Ltd”. John was a hard worker and worked with his brothers and sons throughout his career. He had a love for horses and enjoyed working in his vegetable garden. Special thanks to the staff and his friends at Extendicare Nursing Home for their warmth and compassion. He will be greatly missed by his family. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society. Visitation will be held at CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME- 322 Fennell Ave E. Hamilton on Monday, May 15th from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A funeral mass will be held at Regina Mundi Church Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 16th at 10am. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery.
