I have renovated my house over the years and each time people tell me to change the ceilings in my home. I tell them.....never....Joe did those by hand..h He was a wonderful man

My wife and I have fond memories of Joe. We were saddened to hear of his passing. Back in the 1970’s , Joe plastered the new house we built  at Valens, On.  At that time, Joe told me that I had taught Joe junior at summer hockey camp!
Joe was always friendly and good natured.  He had incredible  skill . Over the next decades he also helped us out  with my parents’ house as well as our next house in Westdale. He always did a perfect job.

Joe had a very kind hearted soul he was such a genuine honest man I will miss his laugh and bright smile. I will miss seeing him driving around hamilton he was hard to miss with the flags on the car ,) 
The memories for me over the years are many but cutting his lawn and doing yard maintenance with my dad are now forever cherished.
Loved when the job was done we would all sit under the car port and have a cool beverage and just chat. Joe was always a pleasure to be around may he rest in peace.

Mr. Ridos was a wonderful neighbour. He always had words of encouragement and would lend a helping hand. Our kids spent hours in the pool. A couple of years ago, after a big snowstorm, I got stuck getting out of the driveway. Two young guys came along and tried to help but it wasn’t til Joe came out, cane and all, and gave some advice and a good push, that I got out.  He was pretty much invincible,  never giving in.  He would tell me “There is nothing wrong with my heart”. And he was right. He had a heart of gold.  He will be missed in our neighborhood.

I wish to offer my condolences on your loss of Joe.  Joe was the Cantor at Assumption Church for many years.  On Sundays, I would stand next to Joe, and help him in the singing.  Joe always knew all the Old Slavonic words and melodies.  I didn’t know them very well.  Joe would encourage me, and  say,  stand here next to me, and follow my lead.  He was a great teacher, and I thank him for his help.  He did a great job as our leader.  He loved the old Slavonic services, and missed them, after the Service was changed to English.  At the end of this past Sunday’s Mass, we sang a Panachida for Joe.   Joe is missed.  Jim Ducar

I wish to extend to all of Joe’s family, my heart felt sympathy, at Joe’s passing.  I have known Joe since the 1950’s at St. Peter and Paul, and later at Assumption Church.  We sang together at Sunday services,  when Joe was a Cantor.  For many years, I had the pleasure of bowling with Joe in the Slovak Bowling league, on the same team, back in  the 60’s, sharing many wonderful laughter filled evenings.  When we moved into our current home, many years ago, I asked Joe to come and do some of his creative plastering magic on the ceilings, in our home.   Joe "Papa Josko"  was a well respected neighbour that became a long term friend along with wife Mary and their family.  Joe asked our nieces to call him "Papa Josko" Ashley &  Olivia, obliged.  Their backyard had a beautiful pool which he loved to share with the girls.   Joe began teaching them simple things about swimming but the most greatest treasure was when Joe threw in quarters and the girls had to retrieve them. At first they were really scared but with the kind words and coaxing of Joe they began to dive into the eight foot deep end to retrieve the quarters.  
He was so proud of his grown children, always spoke so kindly of Linda, Joe, Cindy & Susie whom we met over the time we were neighbours, what a loving family.  Joe was so proud of the accomplishments of his grandchildren that we heard many stories of what they were completing in school and just this past fall on a visit he shared with us what the grandkids had become.  There was never a cross word shed from Joe and with all the great memories we have we will miss him dearly.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Mary and the Family.

On February 4, 2021, I lost a good friend to cancer. Joe "Josko" Ridos. He was my father in law. Joe was a very loving and caring man. He was wholly committed to his family. He always welcomed  everyone with open arms and a friendly and warm smile. I learned a great deal from Joe, and I will always be grateful for that and having him in my life. I will miss his infectious smile and laugh, his bright eyes, his voice. Always in my heart and thoughts, love Claudio.

I am saddened to hear of his loss, although I didn't know him. I worked with Joe on H.P.S. for many years and we had some good times together. Joe, please accept my condolences and extent them to your family. The next time I get back from B.C., we'll have to get together to have "a shot of whiskey" in his honour.

From the Vircik family our deepest and heartfelt condolences to all of the Ridos family.  We have many happy memories of our Godfather and our Dad’s best friend.  From the many many Birthday parties  that he always celebrated with great enthusiasm and song for all 8 kids between our two families.  To skating every winter on the backyard rink he  meticulously built and maintained and watered nightly.  To all of the Slovak days filled with great food, dance and singing of course!!   To watching and admiring him performing his mastery in plastering beautiful ceilings.  And just drop in visits that we were always welcomed with open arms!  We are so blessed to have had him in our lives and will always carry his love in our hearts.

Even though it is sad to say goodbye to such a wonderful man , I also feel joy in having the privilege to know “Papa Joe”.   He immediately welcomed me with a great bear hug and an open heart.   It did not take long to realize the love and pride Josko had for his family, home and profession.  Of course I was immediately charmed by that mischievous smile and twinkle in his eyes they did not fade even when fighting his cancer.  My favourite memory, though, will always be that look of pure happiness whenever he was surrounded by his family and friends, you knew he felt like the richest man in the world. I always remember Mr Ridos throughout the years visiting to see my friend Linda. He and Mrs Ridos were always warm and welcoming. As we grew older they remained interested in our lives. They always made you feel like you were part of their sphere. 
One time just a few years ago I mentioned to Linda that I had a bad ceiling repair in our dining room ceiling which was upsetting me. She said her Dad would still do some jobs. I was delighted when he agreed to come all the way to Mississauga to share his expertise   Claudio came along to help as well. They did a magnificent job, far better than the original which we were delighted with!  I knew it was a special favour. 
It is easy to remember all the efforts surrounding his love for his growing family, the pool, the ice rink etc..  Mrs Ridos and Mr Ridos were quite a team and it is no accident they are always surrounded and supported by their loving family.  I feel fortunate to have these Ridos memories as part of my own life memory reel!

Mrs. Ridos, Linda, Joey, Susie, Cindy and families...I don't even know where to begin! I was heartbroken at the news. Your father's pain and suffering is now over. This is certainly the hard part, but it does get better over time. 

I have so many memories and sit here with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat trying to type even one. I spent so much time in your yard in my young life, it was like it was my house. Mr. Ridos was an amazing neighbour and was loved by everyone on the street, always lending a hand to help out with any task, big or small. Like Cindy's story, I too worked with your father (only a for a few days!) and like Cindy, thought there was no way on earth I could do what he was doing for a living. He was a machine! I loved every conversation I had with your father, who always wanted to know how my sports/school were going, how the job was going, how the family was...and why the Tiger-Cats punted when they should have gone for a field goal!! 

May all of your memories bring you comfort in the days and years ahead. It was a true honour to have known such a great man and I will never forget him.

What I know personally, is that the way in which he chose to live his live, was to me, and will continue to be, an inspiration.  I don't recall him ever wishing or wanting for anything.  In his own way,  in his quiet way. he practised gratitude daily, for everything that was his life. Having known Joe has certainly impacted my life, in the most positive way.

and he was loved so much

My Dad was a man who I looked up to and taught me many life lessons . His work ethic was one of them . I worked with him when I was about 18 . I watched him plaster  houses all by hand and I had to pass him the plaster on the peel, carry bags of plaster up long flights of stairs swearing the whole time , thinking holy crap why would my Dad enjoy this work, but he did and always said to me find something you love and do it. He loved loved being a master plasterer and if you look up you may just have a ceiling or a cove or a wall hand made by “My Joe”.  Dad you will forever be in our hearts and we will keep your spirit with us everyday. I love you  and miss you😘



Thinking of all of you on the passing of your Dad and Husband.  Childhood memories of skating in your backyard, swims in the summer in the pool, trips to the beach,  being part of your family Christmas Eve Celebrations, football games and so many memories of a loving family which I am blessed to know.  My deepest condolences to all of you.  Sending love and prayers.
