After a long courageous battle with cancer, our dad passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family. Beloved husband of Marica (Mary) for 48 years. Most loving father to his 3 daughters and son-in-laws; Nancy and Vlado Jefak, Lilly and John Sulug, and Marianne and Andy Pukas. Joe was an extremely loving and proud grandfather (Dede) to Yvanna, Tamara, Thomas and Marcus, who truly adored him. He will be sadly missed by his sister Dragica and her family in Slovenia, and many cousins, relatives and friends in Canada, Croatia and the U.S. Our dad was a kind and gentle man who always put others before himself. He was a devoted family man, who through his life made many sacrifices to provide a good life for his wife and children. A true warrior, especially the last 10 years as he privately and whole heartedly battled the disease that took him away from us. His strength and determination will always continue to be an inspiration to his family. Dad worked hard for over 31 years at Dofasco after bringing his family to Canada. A heartfelt thank you to all the caring doctors and nurses at Princess Margaret Hospital, Dr. Sridhar, Dr. Fallah-Rad and nurse Jennifer Harris, the palliative care team and the personal support workers who helped make our dad's journey an easier one. Visitation will be held at MARKEY DERMODY FUNERAL HOME 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Monday, May 23, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Prayers at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Church on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery. Memorial donations made to the Cancer Assistance Program or Holy Cross Parish would be appreciated by the family. Online tributes and condolences can be made at www.markeydermody.com.
