She was predeceased by her cherished husband Frank. She was a loving mother to Edward (Linda), David (Laurie), and Timothy (Véronique), and an adoring Oma to Stephany (Spencer), Rachel, Cassandra, Daniel (Lexa), Amber, Trevor, Melissa, Kaitlin, Krista and Jennie. A truly proud and gentle Great Oma to Harper, Kiara, Zoey, and Lilyanne.
For Kathe, the start of summer meant it was time to head north to the cottage. It wasn’t simply a destination — it was a place that brought us all together. She looked forward to her refreshing dips in the lake, quiet evenings around the campfire, and a little friendly competition over cards or ditch nitch. She was always ready to place a wager and carefully counted every penny she won — a bookkeeper through and through. Kathe was especially proud of having gone back to school to study bookkeeping, a decision that led to a long and fulfilling career at the Ottawa Street YWCA, where she faithfully served as their bookkeeper for many years.
Kathe was the heart of our family — a gentle, steady presence whose love could be felt in every stitch she knitted and everything she baked. Her kitchen was a place of warmth in every sense of the word. The scent of freshly made pizza, kugel, waffles and her famous cakes filled not only her home, but also our memories. She baked not just with skill, but with joy — and everyone who tasted her creations could feel the love folded into every recipe.
Family was the center of Kathe’s world. She welcomed children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with open arms and a knowing smile. She listened patiently, celebrated every milestone, and offered comfort in difficult times. Every goodbye included a little dusting. Around her table, stories were shared, laughter echoed, and traditions were lovingly passed down. Her knitting needles were rarely still. With careful hands and a generous heart, she created sweaters, scarves and slippers — each piece a tangible expression of her love. Many of us will forever be wrapped in her warmth, both literally and in spirit.
Kathe lived a long life filled with devotion, resilience, and quiet grace. She taught us the value of family, the beauty of simple pleasures, and the importance of giving from the heart. Though we will miss her deeply, we carry her love with us always — in our kitchens, in our homes, and in the traditions she leaves behind. Rest peacefully, dear Oma. You will forever be our comfort, our inspiration, and our home.
