Passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 11th at the McNally House Hospice in Grimsby in her 88th year. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love, support, and prayers of her family and friends carried her through her five years after the passing of her beloved husband and the love of her life, Joseph O'Brien. Predeceased by her daughter Patricia Ann. Lovingly remembered by her children Tom, Eileen (Kelly), Colleen (Sid), and John (Mary), as well as her seven grandchildren Kristina, Jonathan, Jenell, Andrew, Jacob, Joseph, and Zoe. She was a "mom" and a "granny" who never missed a chance to attend dance recitals, school events, hockey and football games, sharing stories while having a cup of a tea and cookies or any opportunity to support her children and grandchildren.
Kathleen was born in New South Wales, Australia. In her early years she moved to Cork, Ireland where many of her best memories were made. She was a proud and longtime supporter of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and loved singing, dancing, and her Irish music. Her famous Shepherd's Pie will be missed by many. Kathleen and Joe spent many winters in St. Petersburg, Florida and formed many warm and long lasting friendships which she cherished. Kathleen will forever live on in the hearts of her brother Paddy Keating in Ireland, nieces, nephews and friends in Hamilton, Florida, Ireland, and Scotland.
She will be remembered for the simple warmth and ease you felt by just being in the same room with her. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and engaging demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her infectious smile and her constant love and devotion to her family will never be forgotten. Her selflessness and heart of gold will forever be admired. It was an honour and a privilege having her as our mother.
We wish to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Sewchand and Lynne, Dr. Heather Roelfsema, Charlene and all the staff at Lakeview Retirement Home. Finally, our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the amazing staff and volunteers at McNally House who made our mom's end of life journey so dignified and peaceful. You are all angels and we are eternally grateful to you for allowing us to enjoy our mother's final weeks by simply spending precious time with her in your heaven before heaven environment - a gift that we will forever cherish. Friends will be received at the MARKEY DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King St. East (at Kenilworth), Hamilton on Sunday, December 14th, between 7-9 pm. Private funeral service will take place Monday, December 15th, 2014. Cremation to follow. “May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand."
