To my nana,

Our phone calls and FaceTimes quickly became such a big part of my life. Those little check-ins that meant so much more than you probably realized. Even if it was short, even if we talked about nothing important at all, talking to you was always such a highlight of my day. Your smile, your expressions, and the way your eyes lit up when the kids came into view. You were never tired of seeing them (or me). You always wanted updates, always asked how they were, what they were doing, what made them laugh lately. You loved them so purely, so naturally…like it was the easiest thing in the world.

You were the proudest Nana and great nana. The kids felt your love even through a screen. They recognized your voice. They knew you as someone safe, kind, and full of warmth. I’m so grateful they got to know you, even in these small but meaningful ways. Those moments mattered. They always will.

You were just as loving to Kevin. You cared about him genuinely, not just because he was my husband, but because you truly wanted to know him, how he was doing, how work was going, how he was taking care of us. You made him feel welcomed and valued, like family should. That meant more to me than I can ever put into words.

Our conversations weren’t always about big things.. but they were always real. Always filled with love. Always something I’ll replay in my heart forever.

I miss you in the in-between moments the most.. the moments when I would have picked up the phone just to hear your voice, or FaceTimed so you could see the kids running around the house. I miss knowing you were only a call away.

Thank you for loving my children so intently. Thank you for loving my husband so genuinely. Thank you for loving me so completely. Your love didn’t stop at me, it extended through my entire life, into my family, and into everything that matters most to me.

This is difficult for us to write, especially at this time of year.
To us Lesley was Christmas. Every year from when our boys were were small they waited eagerly for the large parcel from Canada to arrive. Lesley knew exactly what to send .

The first time we visited Lesley and Dennis was I just before Christmas 1998 we were royally entertained and were taken to see every Christmas display for miles around. Lesley loved Christmas. We were introduced to the Dollar Store and Walmart. We went home with an extra suitcase  ( loaned by Lesley) filled with icicle lights and all the things Lesley deemed necessary for a proper Christmas. 

Lesley is everything that all the people have said and more but to us she was a big sister and good friend. Till we meet again

She was there when I was born and was a constant companion in my early years. A faithful friend and a stalwart family member.

Lesley was my cousin on my father's side. She was 10 years older than me but very ckose to myself and all her cousins. We all attended her wedding to Dennis in 1961 and, spesking to fellow cousins, it remains a lovely memory for all of us. In the mid 60s, with their two small children, Lesley and Dennis took the brave step to emigate to  Hamilton, Canada and what a success they made of it! Lesley was a very kind and loving person, never a cross word to say about anybody. She travelled back to the UK several times times to visit her UK family and always was the Lesley we remembered. She kept in touch by telephone and was always excited to hear how we and our close families were doing. I remember well my visit to Dennis and her house in Hamilton in 2009 with my then 6 years old daugnter, Julia, How welcoming they all were with Lesley so visibly delighted to see us and hear all our news. It was wonderful, too, to meet up with all our Canadian family. Julia often refers to our visit after all these years. My abiding memory of Lesley is an old one - we cousins were younger than Lesley but, on our visits to the house she shared with our Nana, her Mum amd Dad (Aunty Maud and Uncle Jim), she made sure  to play with us and make our visits fun. Yoy may have lived far away, Lesley, but you always remained close to our hearts, My heartfelt condolences go to your husband of 64 years and your rock, Dennis, and to Alison, Jon and your grandchildren and great geandchildren. Rest in Peace lovely Lesley.

I share this story because I didn’t have the privilege of knowing my own grandparents growing up. Life took my family far and fast, and time together was limited, as some of them passed before I had the chance to know them. But through Lesley, I experienced the love, guidance, and connection I had unknowingly longed for—something I will never forget.

When I started dating Carleigh, her grandparents became part of that journey. One of my first interactions with Lesley, who I soon called Nana, was during a holiday dinner. It was also my first authentic trifle, the first of many, especially after she jokingly warned me to take care of her cherished dish.

She genuinely treated me as one of her grandchildren. We joked that I was her favorite grandson, and while I may have claimed that title lightly, her warmth and generosity were unmistakable. At times, I even felt a little envious of Carleigh’s connection with her Nana, something I hadn’t realized I had missed—but through Lesley, I was able to experience it too. 

Her heart was immensely generous. I remember my first Christmas morning with the Prices, receiving my first, infamous, Lesley gift bag. She always pushed the limits of what could fit inside, and I still treasure every gift, cherishing them with fond memories. Her love extended naturally to my son, her great-grandson Noah, showing the same love and thoughtfulness across generations. 

I will remember her as the best dressed guest at our wedding. She was always a true lady of class who could have given the Queen a run for her money. 

Lesley had a way of shifting my perspective, teaching me to enjoy life, slow down, not take things too seriously, and approach situations with a lighter heart. 

The grief we feel toward Lesley is all the unexpressed love we didn’t get to tell her. I hope this grief stays with us, not as sorrow, but as a reminder of her love and the ways she shaped our lives.

She will be dearly missed, always loved, and forever remembered.

Lesley was such a special person, we will miss her so very much.  She was incredibly caring and easy to talk to - she had the wonderful gift of making everyone feel loved and welcome. We have fond memories of staying with Lesley during our trips to Canada, and of spending time with her when she visited the UK.

I had the honour of spending the day with Lesley at little Noah’s christening. She looked lovely and we had such a great time talking and sharing funny stories. I will always remember that day in my heart. Her laughter was the best we were watching Noah chasing balloons on the floor. She was so happy and beamed with pride watching her great grandson.  She was a great lady that loved her family so much. RIP Lesley ❤️🙏🏼
