Rob and Nicole would like to thank everyone for their support, flowers, cards, and prayers through these difficult times. Because of Covid-19, we were only able to have 10 people at the funeral, thanks to those who attended the funeral and those who watched the live stream. Something Linda always wanted was balloons, which everyone had one to release after the service.
Linda was born in Hamilton on October 30, 1961, to parents John and Frances Winarsky. Her siblings were Bob, Darlene, Stephen, and Nancy. She grew up in the Corktown neighbourhood in Hamilton. She graduated from Sir John A. MacDonald high school. She then went to college in Brantford to take graphic design. She had a love for art and drawing. After a short job in the field, she came back to Hamilton and started working at various restaurants and bars as a waitress. She worked at Paddington’s, then she worked at Moe’s where she met her future husband Rob. Rob and Linda’s first house was 629 Upper Wellington then we moved to 53 Duncombe Drive. Linda’s rhyme was “Started to date in 88, said I do in 92!” Rob and Linda eloped in Las Vegas in 1992 at the Little Chapel of the Flowers. In 1993, when trying for a family, she had a stillbirth at 7 and a half months, which we named Andy. It was a very sad time in her life. 7 years later, on May 24, 2000, we were blessed to have our beautiful daughter, Nicole. After Moe’s, she worked at Swiss Chalet on Upper James for many years. She then began working in the canteen then made her way up to the kitchen at St. Josephs Healthcare Hospital on West 5th. While working at the hospital, many patients loved her fun-loving personality. She was always one of their favorites. She worked there for many years until she had to go on disability. Nicole and I have fond memories of going to meet her in the canteen to pick her up from work. Being a strong woman, in 2011 she overcame breast cancer and had to have several radiation treatments, which took a toll on her. Other medical conditions she had included diabetes and Rheumatoid arthritis. Because of her health conditions, she eventually had difficulty walking and needed a scooter to get around more easily.
Some of the things she loved in her life were Bingo, reading books, and working on puzzles and she loved pulling weeds out of the grass and garden! Some of her favorite holidays were Halloween and Christmas. She loved decorating for both of the occasions and loved dressing up in silly costumes at Halloween. She had a love for animals. Pigs and goats were 2 of her favorites. One day in 2007, she brought home our black cat Boo and in 2017, we adopted our rescue dog Winnie from Texas who became very attached to Linda and followed her everywhere, like a shadow. She loved going on picnics, family trips, and train rides. She loved going on camping trips in yurts and cottages in the summer. One of Linda’s major personality traits was that she could strike up a conversation with anyone, even complete strangers. She loved talking to people.
Sadly, she passed away unexpectedly on April 16, 2021. She will be missed by family and many friends. Memories of Linda will be cherished forever.
