I saw a picture of Lukas today and was reminded of his death. Lukas was so kind and generous. His quirky sense of humour helped us on student council and I knew if we needed anything he would do it. May he rest in peace and may all of his family still share loving memories of him. God bless.

I worked with Lukas from 2018 to 2020 when he was a colleague in the Assistant Deputy Minister's office.  He was fun to talk to, and always happy to help. Even when we were working late, or on urgent files or dealing with a crisis, he was calm and smiling.  You could count on him to offer sound, well thought-out advice.  He was a perfect colleague who will be missed.

We met when we joined the foreign service together in 2006. Lukas was always ready for an adventure, loved his work, was proud of his heritage, and was never without a smile. He will be deeply missed at Global Affairs Canada. We have lost a friend and incredible colleague.

I write this with great sadness. I first met Lukas at Leanne and Darius' wedding. My first impression was of a very kind man who would do anything for you. His warm smile is still in my memory. I know he is at peace.

Lukas and I were colleagues and friends in the Political section at the Canadian High Commission in Pakistan from 2008 to 2010.  He was a joy to work with.  The enthusiasm and good humour he brought to the job every day really helped lift up his colleagues amid challenging circumstances.  He quickly became one of the most popular members of the embassy family because of his cheerful and helpful attitude.  I am saddened that we will never have the chance to be colleagues again in some distant part of the world.  The Canadian Foreign Service is just a little bit dimmer for his loss.  My sincere condolences to the Gudinskas family and to all of Lukas's friends and loved ones.

I was truly saddened to hear of Lukas’s passing. I had the pleasure of working closely with him for 2 years, from 2017-2019, and he really was a colleague that one could not only depend on, but also one that was fun to be around. I'm very saddened and shocked to hear the passing of Lukas. I had the privilege of working closely with him at GAC just before he departed for Australia. Unfortunately, we had lost touch so I never had a chance to see him again after he returned. Lukas was dedicated, smart, thoughtful, and charismatic. I always felt I could be honest with him. I know he listened. Lukas had so much potential, which makes his passing a great loss.

We were so very, very saddened to hear of Lukas' untimely passing. We had such fond and cherished memories of Lukas while in Washington, DC together. I will always remember Lukas and I taking a bus to New York from Washington, D.C. (where we were both posted) to catch an NHL playoff game between the Rangers and our beloved Habs.  Surrounded by hostile fans, he belted out the words (which certainly helped carry mine) during the Canadian national anthem resulting in the entire section at Madison Square Garden looking back in silence and amazement.  I am extremely saddened to hear of Lukas' passing, having spent  many memorable moments, both at and outside of work including in Maryland with Pajuris - Canadians vs. the Crabs! An infectious laugh,  a fun and mischievous smile, an engaging, caring and kind friend, and a very proud Canadian and Lithuanian. He is sorely missed but remains with us through the wonderful memories he contributed to create for all.  My deep condolences to the Gudinskas family and friends.

They say that cousins are your first friends, and that is most certainly true. You were my big brother, as we always said. I'll never forget how you looked out for me. As just a small example that meant so much, as I was preparing to study abroad in college you had already spent time away in France. One day, a Lonely Plant travel guide arrived in the mail for England, my destination. You told me these were the best.  The fact that you were thinking about your little cousin, at a time when many young adults are just consumed with their own lives, is an example of your generosity, kindness and care. To this day, anytime I travel, I always make sure to first pick up a Lonely Planet travel guide. My collection is something I cherish, and every time I look at them I think of you. 

Lukai, you are going to be missed beyond words. Your spirit will live on forever, you are a huge part of my childhood and who I am today. As tave myliu. Ilsekis ramybej, tu musu sirdyse liksi visados.

Lukas had a special way of connecting with people that was always genuine and insightful, and brought light wherever he went especially when we needed it most.  Since those days in Kandahar and many moments afterwards as our careers criss-crossed, his friendship and warmth never wavered.  We are heartbroken to hear of this loss, and my thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

So very, very sad to read this morning that Lukas had passed away.  So many wonderful memories came surging back to me of this former student.   I got to know Lukas well in class but more so as the Senior Football Team's Audio-Visual man.  As an assistant football coach, I worked closely with Lukas to video the football team's games at Ivor Wynne Stadium, and sometimes, on a school's roof top during a thunder storm.  He was always so positive and reassuring ;  he always had things under control.  Often times, he would glance over at me and say, "sir, we're good, this is all I need".  His work was superb and enabled the coaching staff do their job, improve the team.   Lukas' mature attitude was balanced with a terrific sense of humour and wit... there were many times  when his wit calmed everyone down. I feel like it was  just yesterday, but it's been nearly 30 years since I first  asked Lukas if he could video tape for the football team.  A teacher remembers a great deal about  the  students he has encountered.   "What a terrific kid" was a constant compliment I  heard  at Cathedral  when people talked about Lukas. Lukas was my senior adviser when I was Assistant Deputy-Minister Asia Pacific.  His intelligence, energy and optimism shone through every day.  Despite the endless crisis management, Lukas always faced the day with optimism and a brilliant sense of humour.  He had tremendous people skills and was respected and liked by all his contacts.  He was the ideal Foreign Service Officer, combining analytical skills, judgement and practicality.   Lukas will be missed by all, and my thoughts and prayers go out to the Gudinskas family, who can be proud of such a wonderful man.

Lukas and I joined the Foreign Service as part of the same cohort in 2006. I was immediately struck by his enthusiasm and passion for our work. I had the pleasure of working with him in various roles over the years, most recently during his time as Chief of Staff to the ADM Asia-Pacific. We could always count on Lukas to help us sort out the problems of the day with grace and aplomb. He will be missed.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the unexpected passing of Lukas.  I had the privilege to work with him in the Asia-Pacific branch in Ottawa where his warmth, sincerity and sense of humour always eased the stress of a high pressure job. Lukas was in my cohort in the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade as we both joined DFAIT (now Global Affairs Canada) in 2006. He was a real joy to be around, always ready to help a friend and to socialize. As a francophone, I was always amazed by the quality of his French and the effort he always made to speak is with me and other friends. 

I was deeply sadden to hear of his passing in Ottawa and felt that this was really sudden. We had not crossed-path in the last few years as I was away on posting, but I know he remained the warm and smiling guy I knew and would have welcomed a call from me with open arms.

I would like to extend my most heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. You are in my thoughts and I will forever cherish the moments I shared with Lukas. Lukas was loved and appreciated wherever he went.

I had occasion to work with Lukas at several different points over the last two decades, beginning in Afghanistan, and continuing over the course of several subsequent assignments. Though I cannot claim to have known him well, I can readily attest to his energy, enthusiasm, and love of his country and culture. He will be missed at Global Affairs Canada. I hope that those closest to him will find some measure of solace in the knowledge that the work Lukas did mattered, and undoubtedly contributed to the betterment of the circumstances of his fellow citizens.

I was Lukas' supervisor in the Canadian High Commission in Islamabad, a challenging position he volunteered to go to after serving in Afghanistan.  My memory is that of an enthusiastic young man always willing to pitch in who got along great with local staff and work colleagues.  We worked together again several years later in Ottawa when he served as executive assistant to one of our Branch heads.  He was much to young to go this soon.

I have but happy memories of Lukas from GAC's Southeast Asia/Oceania Division where he was Policy Advisor and then Deputy Director some years ago;  and later, a valued colleague in the ADM's office in the Asia Pacific Branch when I returned to the Branch in 2017-21. 
The picture is so illustrative of Lukas' wonderful personal qualities: his broad smile, good humour, empathy and warmth especially in stressful times of which there were perforce many. (Minister Dion had come by the fourth floor at LB Pearson to thank the team for our work on the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' meeting and formal opening of Canada's new Office in Vientiane late summer 2016.)

Lukas will be greatly missed; a loss to the Department, and to his colleagues.

I had the pleasure of working with Lukas at the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) from 2007 to 2008.  We were there for Canada’s foreign affairs department and part of a wider civilian group supporting the Government of Canada’s efforts in Afghanistan.  In his role, Lukas worked closely with the Canadian military and civilian members of the PRT including Canadian civilian police, Canada’s development agency, the US development agency, and the US State Department. 

Lukas was personable, dedicated, productive and fun to be with.  He was also generous and shared candy and baked goods with colleagues from the frequent care packages he received from home although he did keep the Lego kits to himself.

As a parting gift to his foreign affairs colleagues at the PRT, Lukas gave us all polo shirts with a Kandahar PRT monogram he had designed.  When I learned of his passing last week, in his memory, I wore the shirt for the first time in years. 

My sincere condolences to his family and friends.  Lukas was one of kind, he will be missed.

Jenny and I were privileged to get to know Lukas at the Canadian High Commission in Islamabad. What fun he was to be with - even as we teased him for his love of embroidery and folk dancing. We had many hilarious discussions on politics and I still have the T shirt Lukas gifted me that reads: Don't blame me - I voted MCain. My deepest condolences. I met Lukas when he came to Pakistan  (I was our Defence Attaché) and recall both his professional acumen and great character as a person. He was a valued member of the embassy staff and it was fun to banter some Lithuanian in the hallways as folks looked on confused.

I am so incredibly sorry to hear of Lukas' passing. My heart breaks for his loving father, brothers, extended family and all the friends he leaves behind. May God hold you close in your mourning. I like to imagine he is happily reunited with his dear mother in Heaven. Rest in peace Lukas.

We were very saddened to hear of Lukas's passing . There are no words that can ease the pain of such a loss but know our hearts are with you during this difficult time.

My heartfelt condolences to all of Lukas' family, friends and loved ones. I knew Lukas from his time in Australia and he was such a personable and warm colleague. I am shocked and saddened. Taken far too young, may Lukas now be at peace.

Whether dancing off the street into a bar in Halifax or ensuring our lines were straight at Sunday dance practice in the church basement of Hamilton, Lukas embodied the life and spirit of our Gyvataras dance group. 

One of my favourite moments with Lukas was when a few of us visited him in D.C. and he served us his signature chili, but he added a little too much spice. We were all breathing fire for the next 12 hours. That's the night he earned his alter ego, Dragon. But in real life, he was anything but a dragon. A caring, kind, reliable leader, Lukas was a beloved staple of the Gyvataras crew and this hits hard. Going to miss you friend.

Marijus, Domas, Vincas and family, sending you all the love in the world. Big hugs to you during this incredibly difficult time.

We are so very sorry for this profound and heartbreaking loss, there really are no words.   We hope you find some peace in the days and weeks ahead.
