

After facing cancer with the same strength that she demonstrated throughout her life, Mary Lou died at home in peace on October 12, 2016. Born in Brampton, Ontario on January 10, 1944 to John and Betty Thompson. Mary Lou was the beloved wife of Dr. Robert C. Dickson, cherished mother of Kieran and Megan (Anthony Di Silvestro), adoring grandmother to Anthony Charles (Charlie) Di Silvestro, dear sister to Johnna Lee Dalrymple (Brian) and David Thompson (Suzanne), loving aunt to Stephen, David, Briar (Jonathan), and Jocelyn (Matt) and great aunt to Lincoln, Marshall, Cooper and Sawyer. She is fondly remembered by her friends and her McTaggart and Thompson cousins. Mary Lou was a graduate from Mc Master University, an elementary school teacher, an assistant in Bob’s medical practice, a reading volunteer, an active member of Barton Stone United Church, a passionate environmentalist, and a long time member of the Terryberry Library Book Club. She was a former member of the City of Hamilton’s Waste Reduction Task Force. The family gives grateful thanks to Dr. Hirte, nurse Hilde and staff of the Juravinski Cancer Centre for their compassionate care. Friends will be received at the Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Ave. East, Hamilton, Sunday, October 16, 2016, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Service at Barton Stone United Church, 21 Stone Church Rd. West, Hamilton, October 17, 2016 at 11 am. Reception to follow. Burial to take place at White Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Barton Stone United Church, Neighbour to Neighbour, Wesley Centre or the Cancer Assistance Program would be appreciated.
