Very dearly loved son of Brian and Margot (Wallenburg), loved husband of John Elash, loved brother of Jordan and dear loving friend of Leslie Maskell. Matt will be sorely missed by his many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Matt was a programmer and had recently started a new job. He loved what he did and was excited to be working on a new project. He always enjoyed working with people and liked being part of this new team. He was also a voracious reader and had to have every book in hard cover. He always said he had trouble with people, struggled to make connections but that’s not true.
Matt was just selective with who he trusted, who he loved. But when he loved, he did it deeply. When Matt was happy, whether he was with his dogs, going to see a good movie with John or immersed in the story of a video game, it was special. It was the weight of the world, a deep dense fog, lifting for a few minutes and you got to see the real him. Matt was funny, he had a quick wit and a good sense of humour. But Matt also struggled with anxiety and depression. Three weeks ago, after, the loss of his dog Echo, he slipped into a depression. He fought it, he always fought it, but the years had taken a physical toll and his body just couldn’t fight anymore.
