A beloved mother, sister, nurse, and friend, who passed away peacefully on April 7th, 2025 at the age of 72 surrounded by her loving daughters. Maureen was born in Belmont, Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago. As a young girl attending St. Margaret's Anglican School, she always knew she wanted to become a nurse. She migrated to Canada in the early 1970s, where she began her nursing journey at St. Lawrence College in Cornwall, Ontario and graduated in 1984. As a proud Registered Nurse for over 40 years, she continued each day to pursue her lifelong passion for helping others and healed not just with medicine but with laughter, empathy, kindness and grace.
Maureen lived her life with strength, compassion, and an infectious sense of humor that could light up even the most somber room. In her community, she wore many hats — entrepreneur, mentor, volunteer, trailblazer — always seeking to uplift and inspire those around her. Her dedication to helping others was evident in everything she did. Maureen refused to be limited and was ambitious, but never in a selfish way. She showed her family, friends, and community what healthy ambition looks like — rooted in service, pride, and perseverance.
Her life was a beautiful blend of strength and softness, of hustle and heart. She taught us how to work hard, lead with kindness and never lose our sense of humor — even when times got tough. She was a mother first and always — preceded in life by her three cherished daughters, Melanie White, Tamica and Tamara Marcano as well as her beloved grandchildren, Keandra White and Rhianna White. Her love for them was fierce and unconditional, and she honored them with a life of resilience, purpose, kindness and love. She is survived by her three siblings Marilyn White, Sharon and Victor Philips, Aunts Ermine White and Agnes Powell and various cousins in the United States, England, and the Caribbean.
We will forever honor the force that was Maureen Angela White — a woman who brought her light into this world and let it shine fiercely, unapologetically, and beautifully. Mummy, thank you for your laughter. Thank you for your lessons. Thank you for your love. We are better for having known you. We are stronger for having loved you. We are blessed to carry your legacy forward. Rest well, Mummy, we love you. Your light will never go out. Though you may be gone from our sight, you will remain forever in our hearts.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025 at Hamilton Seventh Day Adventist Church, 284 Concession Street. Visitation will start at 10am and the Funeral Service will begin at 11am. Interment to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, 1895 Main Street West.
