He lived a full, happy life as an amazing husband, caring and loving father, a special father-in-law, supportive and fun Papa, and a kind and generous brother, brother-in-law and uncle. He enjoyed spending time and having lots of laughs with our family and great friends.
Mike had many passions including music, working on projects around the house, gardening, travelling, cooking and his New York Yankees hat. In his younger days, he didn’t miss a concert for his endless list of favourite bands. He was an amazing handyman taking on various projects and spending countless hours working on our home. He enjoyed gardening and earned a few Trillium awards throughout the years. He was fortunate to have travelled extensively in North America and Europe.
Mike worked for 38 years at Stelco as an Ironworker and had many fond memories of working and sharing good times with various guys over the years.
With the amazing support from Dr Zbuk, Mike fought cancer for 18 months. The family appreciates the compassionate care Mike received from Dr Zbuk, Nurse Jamie-Lynn, the rest of the Oncology Team, the Pharmacy Team and the staff on C3 at Juravinski Hospital. His last days were spent at St. Peter’s Hospital where he passed away on June 27, 2022 in his 74th year.
We will be forever grateful to Dr Thirumoorthi for diagnosing Mike’s cancer, and for the compassionate care from Nurse Sue, Evette and Anita in the doctor’s office.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Ontario and Joyce, and by his brother, Joe. Mike will be missed tremendously by his best friend and wife of 48 years Marilyn, their sons Christopher and Nicholas, daughter-in-law Jodi and granddaughters Kaitlyn and Ella. He leaves behind his siblings Linda (Doug Langdon - predeceased), Danny, Nancy (Tony Ferri) and Jennifer (Brian); his nephew Justin and nieces Jessie (Travis) and Alyssa (Oliver).
At Mike’s request, there will be no funeral service or visitation. Cremation has taken place. There will be an event honouring Mike at Michelangelo’s, 1555 Upper Ottawa, from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, July 6th. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Juravinski Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
