January 8, 1950 – February 22, 2026
Gently and peacefully with her family by her side, God took Natalie home on Sunday February 22, 2026 in her 77th year at St. Peter’s Hospital after a battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Taras for 47 years, beloved mother of Ivan and Christina (Luke Chmilenko), cherished Baba of Anastasia and Kira. Loved sister of Stasia in Poland. Natalie is predeceased by her parents George (2001) and Raisa (2011) (nee Derevianko) Wandjura.
Natalie was born in Hamilton, Ontario, on January 8, 1950. Describing herself as a proud “North-ender”, Natalie grew up actively involved in the Ukrainian community and among a close neighbourhood of friends building many close friendships within the community that stand to this day. Growing up she was known for her ability to make others laugh, her social personality and her incredible piano playing (Grade 12 level graduate).
Upon graduating high school, Natalie moved to Toronto to pursue schooling in secretarial work, while she continued to stay active within the Ukrainian community. She held executive secretarial positions both at The Hamilton Spectator and Reid Dominion. Natalie was respected and admired by her bosses and colleagues for her incredible work ethic, kindness toward others, impeccable typing skills, and fantastic fashion sense.
In 1979 she married the love of her life, Taras. Together they built a wonderful life and enjoyed traveling, spending time with their cherished lifelong family and friends, taking care of their cats, building a home together and raising their children with their faith in God at the centre of their relationship. With immense love for her children, Natalie decided to devote her time to staying at home to raise them, where she played an invaluable role in volunteering at their schools as well as advocating and supporting them throughout their school years and beyond. With the birth of her granddaughters, Natalie discovered an elevated joy in spending time with them and watching them grow.
Natalie will be remembered for her selfless devotion to family, friends, those in need, her generous spirit, her passion for playing the piano and gardening her roses, her love of musical theatre, her impeccable cooking skills, her quick-witted sense of humour, her unwavering devotion to God, and her extraordinary strength of heart and character. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Our sincerest and most heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Solomon and the phenomenal care staff on the 3 West Palliative Care floor at St. Peter's Hospital for your exceptional, kind, and compassionate care.
