He is predeceased by his parents Antonio and Marietta Michelli and his siblings Angelo, Alessandro, Carmela and Alfonso. He will be greatly missed by his many relatives, and friends in Canada, Italy, Switzerland and France.
Nicola and Concettina created an enduring legacy of love through their children, Anna Maria (Aldo), Raffaele (Barbara) and Antonio (Véronique), and grandchildren Michaela (fiancé Franco), Jonathan, Gilia, Liam, Xavier and Mattéo.
Nicola was born on November 10, 1934 in Rapino, Chieti, in Abruzzo, Italy. Upon completing his secondary school education in Italy, he immigrated to Caracas, Venezuela in 1953, as an apprentice, where he learned his trade and continued to live and work. In 1960, he travelled to Canada to visit his siblings in Hamilton, where he met and married his beloved Concettina.
His craftsmanship as a full trade interior and exterior artisan leaves an indelible mark on countless commercial, industrial and residential projects throughout Hamilton, Toronto and surrounding areas. His custom applications and finishes were fabricated on-site using his own engineered dies and forms, and his skillful hands. He was recognized and admired for his dedication, creative talent and workmanship throughout his career.
In retirement, he volunteered as an usher and a member of St. Luke’s Parish Council in Hamilton. His faith was always a beacon for him, providing strength and solace. In his role as a Chancellor of the Knights of Columbus, he mentored and sponsored others to become Knights. Their community service was a great source of happiness for him.
As a member of the Abruzzese Club of Hamilton, he proudly maintained his Italian heritage. Together with Concettina, he participated in many social and cultural events in the community. He passed on to his family an appreciation for the traditions of his culture through music, dance, the art of curing meats, making “passata” and preserves, and crafting homemade wine. His passion for tending his vegetable garden, grafting fruit trees and creating interesting landscapes always gave him great joy.
Nicola was the epitome of strength, stamina and determination. His generous and thoughtful spirit will be cherished by all who were fortunate to have truly known him. He will always remain our hero, our role model, our dear loving papà and nonno.
Nicola and his family have always been grateful for the dedication, care and kindness of his PSWs, doctors, nurses and support staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton.
