It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce that Kenneth MacKay peacefully passed away with family by his side on Monday, September 17, 2018 at Grace Villa at the age of 90.
Preceded by his beloved wife of 56 years, Shirley, Kenneth was the cherished father of David Anderson (Margo), Brenda Copeland (Donald) and Donna Kupina (Mike).
He was the adored Grandpa of Melissa Thompson (Jeremy), Scott Anderson, Michael Kupina (Maria), Nora Gagne (Marc) and Mark Kupina (Katarina), and the doting Great-Grandpa of Zachary, Owen and Sophia Thompson, Michael and Vanessa Kupina, Ryder Gagne, and Monika and Viktoria Kupina.
Kenneth is survived by his brother, Morrison MacKay (Emily), and his sisters, Laura MacInnis, Catherine Gillis, Edna MacLeod and Patricia MacLeod. He is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, John Dan and Mary MacKay, brothers D.J., Norman, Stanley, Willie, Earl and Winston MacKay, and sisters Annie Mae Morrison and Johanna MacDonald, as well as his sister-in-law Catherine MacKay and brothers-in-law Johnny Morrison, Murdock MacDonald, Morrison MacInnis, Allister Gillis, Jamie MacLeod and Tommy MacLeod. He was also predeceased by his nephews, John Dan and Archie MacKay and Calvin MacDonald.
Ken was born in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, but later moved to Hamilton, where he worked for many years at Burlington (Slater) Steel and was for many years a faithful member of St. John’s United Church. A part of his heart always remained in Dunakin.
The family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to the staff at Grace Villa, who provided such wonderful care to Ken.
Friends and family can pay their respects at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue East, on Wednesday , September 19th from 4 – 8 p.m. Funeral service to take place on Thursday , September 20th , 10:00 a.m., at St. John’s United Church, 195 East 38th Street. Internment at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John’s United Church or Grace Villa in memory of Ken would be appreciated by the family.
