Peter Matosa

Peter was born in his beloved village of Vratisinec, Croatia to parents Andrej and Terezija Matosa. He will be truly missed by his beloved wife Terezija of 59 years. Cherished father of Caroline Prawak (Michael) and Maria Zupanic (Mike). Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Christina, Victoria, Joseph, Maya and Olivia. He is survived by his sister Margareta Sijanec and her family in Slovenia. Adored uncle of Bojan Golub. Peter will be sadly missed by many family, kumovi and friends in Canada, Croatia and Slovenia.

Peter and his wife Terezija immigrated to Canada in 1969 in search of a better life. He was a dedicated employee of Samuel Kent Steel for 35 years until his retirement in 2005. During his retirement, he enjoyed the company of his grandchildren. Peter loved gardening, working around the house and watching soccer. He was a proud parishioner of Holy Cross Croatian Church. Peter will be truly missed by all who knew him. Thank you to the staff of the Hamilton General and Juravinski Hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Ambis, Dr. Curnew, Dr. Winter and Dr. Molnar for their care of Peter for so many years.

Visitation at Markey Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton, on Tuesday, March 25 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm with Rosary at 8 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Church, 1883 King Street East on Wednesday, March 26 at 10 am. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery. Donations in Peter’s memory may be made to Holy Cross Church or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
