He is survived by his dear wife, Ingjerd, his children, Anne, Stephen and Matthew, his precious grandchildren, Kate, Claire, Quinn and Theo, and his beloved siblings, Tom, Pat, and Anne. He is predeceased by his sister, Maura. Ray was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on November 22, 1937. He lived his entire life with half of his heart there with his siblings and their families. The other half belonged to an adventurous spirit always looking for possibilities. Ray left home for Libya in 1966, met Ingjerd in London, and settled his family in Bahrain for 10 years, before joining his sister, Maura, in Canada in 1982. There he found a home in the welcoming arms of the Irish Canadian Club of Hamilton and the many friends he gathered along the way.
For over 40 years Ray raised his family steeped in an appreciation for community and devotion to family
and friends. He will always be remembered for his quick wit, the craic, and his gift for turning something ordinary into a story worth listening to. Ray lived with cancer for many years. Until the end, his concern was only for Ingjerd and his children. With so much gratitude for his love and devotion, family will be receiving friends at the Cresmount Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 11 from 6pm to 9pm. Words of remembrance will be shared from 8pm onwards. There will be a funeral mass on Thursday, June 12 at 12pm at Sts. Peter and Paul Church. All are welcome to join the celebration of Ray’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Peter’s Hospital would be appreciated by the family. They owe a debt of gratitude to the wonderful staff who gave Ray such comfort in his final days.
