Ms. Topalovic was my math teacher in grade 11. I just recently learned of her passing and I wish her family all my love. She was an amazing teacher with a kind heart that showed her students the upmost compassion. My brother is now at Nora Henderson and I wish he got to meet Ms. Topalovic. May she rest in piece ❤️

I had a terrible math teach when I was a child. Berated me for mistakes and never gave help when I asked, so I stopped asking and just tried to get through the next number of years until I knew math wouldn't be a required subject. I hated it.

In grade 10 I met Mrs. Topalovic. 

I'd never had a teacher care so much. She went out of her way to make sure I understood her class and was always so happy to be asked a question, even though I had A LOT. She never got frustrated with me, and would even return my emails after school hours if I sent  questions about homework. By far the most caring and dedicated teacher I've ever had. 

None of us knew it then, but she actually sat me beside the man who would become my partner. We have so many fond memories of her class and even though math wasn't our favourite subject, we've never had a bad word to say about our time there. 

The both of us have gone on to use her teachings in different ways, with him becoming a millwright and myself a kinesiologist. He uses her lessons every day, and I kept them close getting through my undergrad math classes. We used to talk about going back for a quick visit to see some of our old teachers, and her name was always at the top of the list.

Almost 10 years have passed since the last time she taught that pair of 15-year olds, and we still remember her. Her kindness was practically legendary amongst the students at Barton as she never missed a hello if she knew your name, and always had a smile to give even if she didn't know you. Her laugh could be heard from down the hall and it was hard not to smile when you heard it. 

I'll miss her and always regret never getting to see her again to thank her for her decision to sit us near each other, and for not giving up on those kids who weren't giving it their all.

I hope that where ever she is, she knows that she is missed greatly and that her lessons won't be forgotten.

As a math teacher, you flunked me. Twice.

I remember, quite often, telling you that I would never use what you taught me outside of your class.

I remember you sitting down with me, and trying to explain different theories about different formula. Trying different techniques to get me to understand and remember what I needed to for your class. Not many teachers put that effort in for me.

I remember you sitting down with me and explaining summer school might be a better option, as you knew the teacher I would be working with. You felt that it would be a good opportunity for me to get better with my math.

I became a tradesman, a welder. I make the fence gates for the board you spent your life working with to help children and youth.

Because of you, I succeed in this industry everyday.
I tell my workers and the people I train all the time that I wish I could go back and tell you you were right. The exact formulas you taught me, with the effort that you showed that not many people did, I use everyday.
The further into this industry I get, and the harder I work, the more I see how right you were. And the more I see how much you helped me.. mostly because you didn't make me feel stupid when I didn't understand. You always looked for another approach to help me learn, which I took with me growing up.

Wherever you are right now, I hope you look down and see the numerous people you've helped. The number of children that you gave options to do something they love. You were an amazing woman, and a wonderful teacher. I wish you were still here so I could say this in person to you, because it was teachers like you that made me enjoy going to learning, even if the topic wasn't my strong suit.

Every time we saw each other at a family function, she would walk over with her beautiful, contagious smile and give you such a big hug  that you can feel her warmth and  love.  She was such a caring and passionate person.  She  will be missed by everyone she touched.   Sabrina,  we miss you deeply and have been blessed to have known you.  You will be forever in our hearts. ❤️

My last conversation with Sabrina was a sweet one.  I had just returned to work after a 4 1/2 year absence and was feeling very anxious.  I bumped into her in the hallway and we chatted.  She was so positive and reassuring.  I walked away smiling, so happy to have crossed paths with her.   I did not realize this would be my last conversation with her but am grateful I got to spend some time with her.  She was a bright light! 

We are deeply sorry to hear of the loss of Sabrina, our deepest condolences to her family.

Sabrina was a colleague at Henderson. She was kind and always had a smile for everyone. She was very dedicated in supporting the ESL students at our school. We will miss you Sabrina. My deepest condolences to Sabrina’s family and loved ones. May you Rest In Peace. 


Sabrina and I were colleagues at Highland Secondary School. She always had a smile on her face. She was kind, generous, sincere, compassionate, and dedicated to her students. As a colleague, she supported her fellow teachers in many ways. She was a positive roll model to staff and students.  She loved her family so much. As Michael and Chelsea grew up, she proudly supported their achievements. Pete and Sabrina were a great couple. My prayers go out to the family as you move through the coming days. 

Sabrina was a lovely colleague who always had a smile on her face. She will be missed by many at Nora Frances Henderson. 

I am so saddened to hear about the passing of Sabrina, my heart goes out to all of you during this difficult time🙏🏻❤️ I grew up with Sabrina, walking to school, playing as children, many birthday parties and many great adventures in the valley! I will cherish these memories forever 

Sabrina will be remembered with fondness by the Gordon family. Our time spent watching Michael and Gregory and the Dundas and Ancaster Soccer teams play the game they love was a special time of bonding. The fact that we were both teachers made it even more special.

 Our entire family are deeply sadden to hear about the loss of a wonderful and caring person, Sabrina. I have known Sabrina for many years. Growing up we had the privilege of spending various boxing day celebrations at her mom and dad's home. Memories I have cherished.
Years later Sabrina and Peter moved to Dundas and became our neighbors. Raising our kids in this neighborhood has truly been a blessing.  Sabrina selflessly gave her time to many of our kids in assisting them with any Math problem they may have encountered. Sabrina was an excellent teacher.
We will deeply miss you Sabrina, you had a heart of gold.

 Sabrina and I had many engaging conversations when we passed in the halls at Barton Secondary. She was always such a pleasure to talk to and definitely such a positive caring person, always. We spent many years watching our boys play hockey in Dundas. Sabrina always had a kind word and warm smile as we chatted in the stands.
