At home, surrounded by her loving family, entered into rest on July 21, 2015, at the age of 86; just one month short of 87. Cherished wife of Al "Alfred" for 65 glorious years. Despite her varied interests she found time to raise five wonderful sons, Ian, the late Chris (Tess), Kevin, Nick (Debra) and Derek (Ingrid). She had six grandchildren, Nathan and Katrina, Matt and Laurel, Katlyn and Kassidy. Also two great grandchildren McKenna and Kendra. Best described as a human dynamo, she picked peaches at Farmerette Camp in her teens and graduated as an R.N. from the St. Joseph's School of Nursing, class of '49. Sheila helped start the Jack and Jill program for pre-school children before kindergarten was introduced at the Caledonia Public School. She was the first Curator of the Caledonia Museum, mounting many interesting displays in the Library Building before leading the drive to move the Museum into the Town Hall; next to replace the Town Hall Cupola. After retiring from this she plunged into furniture refinishing, upholstery and chair caning. Then she pursued art; taking lessons at Hagersville High School, R.B.G. and Mohawk College, and later personal instruction in Chinese Brush. Next came quilting and after a time became past president of the Hamilton Quilters Guild. She always found time to provide love and encouragement to every member of the family; and did not deserve the terrible scourge of cancer which plagued her for the last several years. We are thankful to C.C.A.C. for the wonderful care they provided, and especially the dedication and sympathy from nurse Ramie. Following Sheila's wishes cremation has taken place, and she has returned to the stars. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life with a memorial service at the Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Ave. E., Hamilton, on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sheila to the Royal Botanical Gardens (905-527-1158) or www.rbg.ca/donateonline would be greatly appreciated.
