She remained engaged with family and friends, notwithstanding many challenges. Shelley lives on through her husband of fifty years, Terry, and her daughters Tara (Michael) and Molly (Justin), her proudest achievements. She was adored as “Mini” by her grandsons, Finley and Auley. Shelley also leaves behind her loving sister Alison (Greg) and much-loved niece, Jessica (Eric). She will be deeply missed by her extended family from near and far, and especially her great friends of 50+ years at the “Craft Club”.
Shelley contributed much to her community, serving in senior leadership roles at the Catholic Children’s Aid Society, Catholic Family Services, and the Family Counselling Centre of Brant. She had a deep commitment to improving the lives of communities negatively impacted by the social determinants of health, family circumstances, and developmental disabilities. She was open, honest, and collaborative with everyone who crossed her path, especially her professional colleagues. Small but mighty. She leaves an enviable legacy.
At the beginning of this leg of her journey, five years ago, Shelley set some goals and we are pleased to report that she met every one of them. These successes are largely attributable to the compassionate support of Dr. Samantha Winemaker, caring nurse Jennifer Morritt, Dr. “Ted” Young, and physiotherapist Karen Baxter. Heartfelt appreciation is extended by family to special friends Charlene E., Mary B., Wilma, Anna C., and “J9”. The family will hold a private gathering, with a celebration of Shelley’s life to follow at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cancer Assistance Program (Hamilton), a charitable program, which provided valuable support for many years during Shelley’s illness.
Rest in peace, my dear.
