Sonja Bolduc-Wiebe, age 73, of Virginiatown Ontario, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her children on May 1, 2025. Sonja Christine Bolduc was born on February 15, 1952, in Scotia, California to Evelyn and Alphonse Bolduc.
She was raised in Hartford, Connecticut. Sonja later moved to Canada with her young daughter, where she settled in Hamilton Ontario, then eventually retired and moved to Virginiatown, in Northern Ontario.
Throughout her life, Sonja was known for her vibrant spirit, kindness, and unwavering support for those around her. She was a passionate advocate for the underprivileged and actively took part in the Welcome Inn and Community Centre and Church in the north end of Hamilton, for over 20 years. She worked as the Community Welcomer and Charity Coordinator, helping to organize and support fundraisers and collect donations for their food bank. Sonja also volunteered as a community outreach worker, visiting the elderly of that community, in their homes, long term care facilities and in hospital. Sonja left a lasting impact on that community when she left that position. Sonja went on to be the Superintendent of 221 Melvin Avenue. A job she took considerable pride in.
Sonja will be remembered for her love of creating art, crocheting, crafts, cooking, and baking; all of which brought her immense happiness. All these talents passed on to her children. Sonja loved playing darts and was a part of many different leagues in Hamilton and Virginiatown. She thoroughly enjoyed playing card games, such as Crazy Eights, Rumio, Solitaire, and her personal favourite, Dice. If you knew Sonja well, you most definitely were taught to play this game of Dice. She shared her love for these games with her children, as it was often the after-dinner activity of the evening. Sonja was an independent, determined woman.
Sonja is survived by her children, Marsha (Remo) Cino, and Robert Wiebe, her only granddaughter, Tia Cino, her beloved brother Timothy Bolduc of Hartford, Connecticut, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her son Michael (1992) Sisters; Pamela Kay (twin sister), Ebby, Annette and Mary Lou. Brothers; Theodore, Thomas, and Todd. (All from the USA)
Sonja’s legacy of love and compassion, especially for the unfortunate, marginalized, and elderly will continue in her children. Her sense of humour, laughter and fabulous smile will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Sonja will be deeply missed by her children and granddaughter, as well as her many close friends.
