It is with great pain that we the family of Tadeusz Niewiadomski announce his sudden death on Feb 14, 2013, at the age of 91. He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years Irena; daughter Maria (John) Morel; sons Henryk (Susanne), Jan and Stanislaw (Lyne) Niewiadomski; grandchildren Christopher, Jasmine, Tatiana and Michael Niewiadomski, Steven and Nicholas Morel, Milla Niewiadomski; and, great-granddaughter Isabella Francour Niewiadomski.
Tadeusz was born in Holoby, Poland in 1921. Being involved with the Polish Resistance to Russian aggression in 1940, he was held captive in Russia whereupon gaining freedom, joined the British Army, Polish Air Division. He trained as a paratrooper in Afghanistan before joining the war effort in UK. He was assigned post D-Day invasion into Europe with paratroop insertion into Belgium with gliders and was part of the liberation of Europe with action in Belgium and France, earning many battle honours. Post war, he settled in the UK where he met his bride and life long partner Irena and married in 1954. Exploring new possibilities, he decided to immigrate to Canada in 1955 and began a new chapter in his life.
After a brief stay in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Tadeusz and Irena settled in Hamilton, Ontario. Together, they raised 4 children, starting with little, building a solid family life based on love and respect. Employed by Stelco, he was respected by his colleagues for his tenacity and work ethics. Not formally educated, but highly intelligent, he had an uncanny ability to resolve mechanical problems both at work and at home. Nicknamed "McIvor" by his peers, there was little he could not fix or "figure out". Even post retirement, his offspring were blessed with his desire to help, work and make their struggles minimal. He enjoyed the times with all his children and grandchildren, all rewarded by their desire to seek him out and return their love. His joy of fishing, chasing that elusive "szchupak" or northern pike for the rest of us, will remain a memory that many of us will never let go.
From the family, we would like to express special thanks to all those at the Mayer Clinic for their excellent care of our Dad.
Tadeusz, Dad, Dziadzio and Pra-Dziadzio, we say goodbye to you now. Go to the almighty knowing that you were loved, respected and will be very, very sadly missed. There is no greater honour than that bestowed by your peers and loved ones. Go in peace knowing that you have earned that honour ten fold.
