Terry and C. Roy were married for over 64 years (according to Dad mostly good, some crummy). She was Mom to Lee and Kelly, Mother-in-Law to Dale Chapman and Ray Butkevicius, Mammy to Errin, Garth & Ashley, Steven & Emma and Rebecca; sister to Bob Skene, Herbie & Darlene, Edwin & Liz Thompson, sister-in-law to Bertha Gowers and Aunt Terry to dozens.
Terry grew up in the west end of Hamilton where she attended Strathcona and Westdale. She served in the RCAF 424 Squadron (Aux), worked in the tube division of Westinghouse and as a casual at Canada Post. She was an avid fan of baseball and auto racing, the Raiders and the Leafs and a most graceful swimmer. A member of the OGS-Hamilton Branch, she would offer to trace anyone’s family history. As an avid reader she enjoyed the Sue Grafton ‘alphabet novels’ and worried that she might not live long enough to read the ‘Z’ book. Music was a big part of her life: Terry knew the first line to every song, but only the first line. And she thoroughly enjoyed her one bottle of Molson Export in the evening.
Terry spent years at the Dialysis Unit of St. Joe’s caring for Dad and everyone else on the unit. She was always there for her friends and family, unless you phoned between 7:30 and 8 pm: they were watching Jeopardy!
We send our most sincere gratitude and virtual hugs to the awesome caretakers at Regina Gardens.
Shortly after Mom took her last breath a double rainbow appeared. We like to believe that this was a sign that Mom and Dad are together again.
A private family service will take place. If you wish to honour Terry with a donation please consider the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation (Hemodialysis Unit) or the Alzheimer Society
