Born on January 6, 1940, in Belleplaine, St. Andrew's, Barbados, Vincent was the beloved son of Gladstone and Rosalie Hurst. He was the devoted husband of Gloria Campbell, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. A loving father to Deborah Campbell and Andrew Campbell (Shawde), Vincent was also a cherished brother to D'Arcy, Keith, and Cynthia, and was predeceased by siblings Viola, Milton, Carl, and Sylvia. A brother-in-law to Garfield (Maria), Esther, Celeste, Winston (Tamara), Andrew (Claire), John (Donna), Peter, predeceased by Victor and Wilma. A close friend to Una Perrin and family, the Harris family, and Merle Balfour.
Vincent will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends across Barbados, England, the U.S.A., and Canada. Vincent met Gloria in Barbados, and together they moved to England in the 1960s, marrying on November 9, 1969, in Birmingham. Their first child, Deborah, was born in Birmingham. The family immigrated to Canada in 1974 and later welcomed their son Andrew.
A man of unwavering faith, Vincent served as a Literature Evangelist for the Ontario Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists and later worked at McMaster Hospital as a Dietary Aide until his retirement. He was a dedicated member of the Hamilton-East Seventh-Day Adventist Church for almost 50 years where he served in various capacities including Elder, Sabbath School teacher, and personal ministries leader. He was known for his warm spirit, outgoing nature, firm (and unforgettable) handshake, and countless words of encouragement, wisdom and hope. His bright smile and kind demeanor touched everyone he met.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital - Charlton Campus (2ALC and 6ALC) for the compassionate care provided to Vincent during his final days. The family would also like to express their gratitude for the outpouring of support and kindness during this difficult time. Your continued prayers and love have not gone unnoticed and are deeply appreciated.
