Alverna A. Payne

Alverna was born December 15, 1943 in Youngstown, OH to the late Samuel A. and Philomena Camuso Vittorio.

She worked as a Crossing Guard for the City of Hampton Police Department serving at Captain John Smith Elementary School. She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, the Emily Prayer Shawl Ministry, Red Hat Society – Beach Babes chapter known as “Queen of the Beach”, Hampton Police Auxiliary, and YaYa Momma’s Red Hat chapter known as “Princess Bubbley”, Hampton Roads Queen Council and the Dazzling Black Hat DIVAS.

Alverna is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Olen William “Bill” Payne; sister, Margaret (Peggy) Crea; grandson, Joshua Gaulding. She is survived by daughter, Diane Payne; son, Bill Payne; grandchildren, Matthew Payne (Britt), Jarad Payne (Lindsey Montgomery), Michaela Finch; great-granddaughter, Nora Jo Payne; brother, Samuel A. Vittorio, Jr.; and her two grand dogs, Andy and Angel.

The family will receive friends 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Friday, February 11, 2022 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666. A celebration of life and interment will follow at 3:00 PM at Parklawn Memorial Park.
