Billy Ray Edwards

Billy Ray Edwards, 78, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025. Born on March 16, 1947, Billy was one of two children to William (Bill) and Dixie R. Edwards. He lived a life marked by devotion to his wife and family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Louise, two children, Bill Edwards (Tiki), Darlene Edwards of Hampton. Billy was a proud grandfather and great grandfather. He is also survived by his brother, Glen (Sherry) of Hampton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Billy was passionate about sports and enjoyed playing, coaching, umpiring, and watching his kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play ball. He enjoyed coaching young athletes, from Little League to young adults, to learn a new skill and watching them have those “aha!” moments. He didn’t know a stranger, he always had a story to tell or a joke for anyone willing to listen.

The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to the nursing staff of The Riverside Hospice Center for their compassionate and loving care.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 10, 2025 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, located at 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia, 23666, in the Chapel. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00pm. Services will be officiated by Buddy Chapman. A reception will follow at Freedom Life Church/Ivy Memorial Church fellowship hall at 2200 Coliseum Drive in Hampton from 2:00-4:00pm.
