

Bruce S. "Steve" Poston passed away unexpectedly at the age of 59, on Thursday, April 5, 2012 in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born in Charlotte, NC and then became a resident of Hampton, VA as an infant.
Steve grew up attending Parkview Church of God and graduated from Pembroke High in 1970. After graduation he worked at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company until he joined the US Navy in 1976. He was an ET2 on the USS Texas where he served as a Surface Ship Nuclear Propulsion Plant Operator - Reactor Controller. While serving in the military, Steve was awarded the First Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Expeditionary Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon w/One Bronze Star. He separated from the Navy in 1982 and returned back to Newport News Shipbuilding until he became employed with Virginia Dominion Power at the Surry Nuclear Power Plant. Steve recently celebrated his 25th anniversary with Dominion Power where he was a Senior Nuclear Instrument Technician and served as their INC Coordinator. Steve's co-workers at Dominion Power were his second family whom he was very fond of. He often spoke of his amusing tales and adventures within the shop. Steve enjoyed his job, and appreciated his work-family even more.
In his spare time, Steve enjoyed working with computers, reading, playing X-Box with his grandchildren, taking cruises with his wife and friends, fishing with his Dad Wil, the Dallas Cowboys, and his Face Book friends, and most of all, he loved his buddy "Milo", his 200lbs Saint Bernard.
Steve was a loving and dedicated son to his mother and stepfather, Barbara and Wilbur Stiller, of Hampton, VA. He was also a devoted husband and best-friend to his wife of twenty-nine years, Marsha Poston, of Hampton, VA. Steve was a wonderful Dad to his daughter, Marcie Holloway of Raleigh, NC, his son Marc Holloway of Newport News, VA, and his step-daughter, Irene Rodriguez of Newport News, VA. Steve's most important and cherished role was that of "Papaw" to his grandson's; (Brothers) Zachary and Paris Holloway, Marc Holloway Jr., (Brothers) Scottie, Steven, and Miquel Rodriguez, his granddaughter, Marissa Rodriguez, and one great-granddaughter, Lei'Lani Rodriguez. He will be greatly missed by his Mother-in-law Helen Holland, family friend, "Aunt" Lee Jarrett (especially at supper time), Brother-in-law Eddie Holland and family, and Sister-in-law Candy Myron and family.
He is preceded in death by his step-father, Wilbur "Wil" Stiller, his father Bruce Poston (Billie) (Canton, NC), and his father-in-law, Bill Holland; Uncles, Donald Skidmore and Leon Hardin; Aunts Hilda Bostic and Rachel Hardin; Cousin, Eddie Skidmore. Left to cherish his beloved memory are his dear friends/co-workers at Dominion Power; Aunts, uncles and cousins, Tommy (Jewel) Skidmore, Leann Barton and family, Brent Skidmore and family, Marjorie Mulkey (Martha Carol, Rev. Jim Mulkey and their families), Sarah Skidmore (Mike, Cathy and their families), Joni Jones (Tina, Lisa, Glenda, Glenn, and their families); Special Friends, Pam and Bill Knapp.
The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30pm on Monday, April 9, 2012 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life Service by Rev. Mark Hambrick and Rev. Tim Phipps will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 2pm at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
