

LTC (Ret) Charles “Chuck” W. Edgette, 84, surrounded by his children, died on November 11, 2022 in Williamsburg, VA. A native of Niagara Falls, NY, he had been a Hampton resident since 1971. In 2021, Chuck moved to Toano, with his loving daughter Paula, son-in-law Steve and grandson Trey. He received loving care by all, but especially Steve who cared for him as though he was his father. Chuck spent his youth in Niagara Falls and graduated from Niagara University, Niagara Falls, NY in 1960, with a B.S. in Sociology. Also, in 1960, he married his college sweetheart, Susan (Moore) Edgette. Chuck was a Counter Intelligence officer in the US Army for 20 years; serving our country during the Vietnam War and various stateside and oversea assignments. He was a decorated Army officer who was awarded several medals during his career to include: Bronze Star with 1 OLC, Meritorious Service Metal with 1 OLC, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm-Unit, and the Presidential Unit Citation. Chuck received his M.S. Degree in Education from Hampton University. Upon his military retirement, he continued working in various fields to include human resources, culminating as a college professor. Chuck devoted his time to his wife, rearing six children, and adoring his fourteen grandchildren. Although he was immensely proud of his military career and being a soldier, Chuck exhibited great kindness, love, and tenderness to his four daughters, two sons, and especially his beloved Sue.
Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, Sue; his parents, Charles J. Edgette and Dorothy S. Edgette; brother Paul M. Edgette, sisters Judith A. Edgette and Dorothy M. Bigham, and daughter-in-law Mary Beth Edgette. He is survived and mourned by his children and their spouses, Michael J. Edgette, Mary Edgette Siemen (Terry), Eileen Edgette Durbin (Timothy), William C. Edgette, Paula Edgette Dawson (Steve), and Anne Edgette Scott (Jason). “Grandpa Chuck” will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Peter M. Edgette, Charles A. Edgette and their mother, Patricia T. Edgette, Elizabeth G. Siemen, Erin R. Siemen, Eva M. Siemen, Grace M. Durbin, Tara A. Durbin, Brenna E. Durbin, Allyson B. Edgette, Keghan W. Edgette, Stanley “Trey” Dawson III, Annabel T. Scott, Eleanor C. Scott, and Charles T. Scott. Chuck is also survived by his brothers, Peter J. Edgette (Molly) and Arthur V. Edgette (Patricia), and sisters Ellen Jo Edgette and Carol E. Rossi (Robert). Chuck was fortunate to have a loving and caring sister-in-law, Molly S. Edgette, to devote countless hours of love and care. While Chuck will be missed by all, his soul is at rest and he’s over-joyed to be reunited with the love of his life, Sue. The Edgette family would also like to thank Chuck’s compassionate doctor, Dr. Jana Nussen, M.D., and his wonderful caregiver, friend and cribbage partner Eric Murray.
The family will receive friends at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, Hampton, VA, on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Friday, November 18, 2022, at 2:00 PM at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Ft. Monroe, VA. A private burial will follow.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Ft Monroe, VA.
